Ive checked out a heap of posts on commodore websites about swapping a VN series 1 "chocolate block" style coil pack with a 3 section style VT coil pack but I cant seem to find a solution to getting around the differences in the VN and VT brackets which mount the coils and DFI modules to the engine block.
A series 1 VN has a bracket that holds the original coil down with 3 bolts (on of which is earthed)while the VT coil has no place for an earth wire.
Also,the VN bracket itself it also attached to the alternator while the VT bracket doesnt allow this, so im a bit suss about replacing the entire VN bracket with the VT one.
Any solutions? |

If you're in Perth, there's a chain of stores called Rudds. They sell tools, power tools and welders and the like, but they are specialists when it comes to nuts, bolts, studs, washers and anything to do with them. If you can give them the specs of what you need (length, thread pitch, diameter, Imperial/Metric) they will find it. I say take your ignition module bracket in, and they can find something to fit. Even if you bring in a bolt with the same thread and diameter, this will give them something to work on |

Never mind that bit about the threads... It had slipped my mind that they're studs, and I just need to make sure I get nuts to suit whatever I use... :) |

OK... following up on my own post here... Just ordered in the last genuine VR adaptor plate at our local distributor, just need to locate 3 studs to hold it down now... as I'm not able to pull the car apart here, anyone got any idea of the thread on the studs?
(the original Holden studs have been NLA for a couple of years now... I suspect the plate's going the same way as soon as they run out of stock...) |

I also have a module that is too new to attach to the Series 1 bracket... Is there a Holden bracket that still holds the alternator in place, and allows the later DFI modules and coils to bolt up?
Or am I looking for an aftermarket adaptor plate that may or may not still exist? |

Got the coil for free from a friend, was hoping I could do it all for nothing! haha.
I may have to investigate into part numbers and see if I can screw the VT coil into a VN series 2 bracket to keep costs down....

Go for the VN series 2 coil pack. Same design as the VT (possibly the same part) and will bolt straight up providing you use the series 2 brackets.
