Posted - 13 Nov 2011 : 6:53:16 PM When I finally get around to building the one tonner, the V6 that presently sits in my VN will go into the one tonner, rebuilt and slightly worked. Does anyone know anyone, particularly in WA that does a lot of this kind of work. It will be a full-on rebuild; cam, heads, chip and bottom end. Minimum power output of 160kW, but must be reasonably well-mannered on the street. Stock for an S1 is 120kW, but if I'm going to the trouble of rebuilding it, more power should be expected, not more of the same |

Posted - 15 Nov 2011 : 4:47:38 PM well i have a s2 top end due to problems while trying to change the thermostat and the heads were modified to suit the s2 inlet manifold . the coolant path on the s1 is **** when it comes to working on the motor. but sounds like you got it under control |

Posted - 14 Nov 2011 : 7:48:56 PM Part of it is sentimental reasons that I'll be keeping the S1, part of it is simple practicality. It is a tradition in my fleet that all cars swap at least one part, whether that part is as small as a simple clip or screw. The factory difference between S1 and S2 was 5kW, most of which came from an improved memcal and ignition. As it stands, this engine is already fairly healthy for a stocker. I'll be dropping a reconditioned stock engine in the VN, but its original V6 will have all the time in the world to be rebuilt.
I realise now that in a WB engine bay, I have a lot more room to work with. Compared to a Commodore engine bay, it has a lot of room at the back as well as the front, so things like the S1 thermostat housing don't bother me. The bottom end will likely come from an S2, to accommodate a manual flywheel with a minimum of fuss |
