Hey Everyone,

My trans has been fine since I got my license back (A week ago) Then yesterday I went for a big drive with a full car up longgg mountains, I woke up this morning and went to go to work, and put it in drive and it moved nowhere, it sat in neutral. Same with putting it in 1 & 2, then it eventually shifted into gear and then the same thing happened at lunch and tonight, but I will note it drives really well and shifts perfectly whilst driving.

Notes:
I got my VN in March (While I had no license) And it hasn't really been driven much until I got my license back (A week ago) The owner said that it had been sitting in a garage for a few years and hadn't been touched. So I don't think its had a trans oil change for a few years. I should have thought about checking it but it never came to me. So if the oils dirty and the filters are clogged could that be the reason?

Cheers, Jamie

Yea guys apparently it was 'rubber seals' I think? And apparently they harden up over time, and whilst they're hard it won't slip into gear, but it explains why it goes into gear after it heats up because the rubber softens. So yea I dropped my car off at the Southport Commodore Wreckers just before and I'm picking it up tomorrow, fingers crossed the new gear box is real good. Going to put a shift kit in it to.

yer he took it to a place today and it buggered i was talking to him last night about the fluid level and getting him to check it, the level was fine but the oil was a brownish black colour, hes getting a new one put in it from the commodore wreckers for 650 supplied and fitted with a full service

Jamie the first thing look at gear box oil levels, with the engine off, engine at idle. From what I can remember from my tri-matic days (20 years ago) the oil level is checked while the engine was at idle and gearbox in Drive. VNGRPA has the Gregory's manual he might be able to quote the correct process.

Also look at the colour of the oil, compared to new oil, if its really dark and smells burnt there is a big hint you have slipping clutches, so a service is required.

If you keen on the manual idea ...

Have a look on eBay there is a couple of S@#T heaps for about $500 , have another car plus a 5 speed manual gear box and could sell parts off and make the money back or keep some parts as spares I.E motor ;)

But you still have the c@#t of a job to do plus a bit of time

Well maybe it could have something to do with you atf so maybe you could have a look ?

Servies the gear box would be a good start . Can be bought of eBay for about $20

And I would get a stage 2 shift kit , Corvette Servo , a hi - stall converter and a b&m shifter ...
