Posted - 22 Jan 2012 : 9:27:52 PM My series 2 v8 is playing games with me. Il go for a drive and its fine, turn it off at say a gas staition or whatever, start it back up and its a complete different car. The exhaust note is alot louder and its like im driving with the handbrake on or towing a big block of concrete, just sluggish and slow as anything, and also the gear changing is sharp and bitey. It can be like this for a few seconds, or sometimes a good 5 minutes or more. Only ever does it when i turn the car off and restart it warm/hot. when its doing the running like **** thing it still sounds normal ish, like its not dropping a cylinder or running lumpy, still sounds like it should, just louder What could it be?? |

Posted - 24 Jan 2012 : 3:58:23 PM Cool will try the timing, how you described the leaping foward in speed and power is pretty bang on. i noticed the ecu has writing on it saying vn ss (which any writing is usually a second hand sign) so maybe its done it before at some stage, and my wagon is a executive. hopefully thats it. Dont think it will be the exhaust because it doesnt do it any other time apart from when restarted when warm? process of elimination tho i guess. Thanks for your comments

Posted - 23 Jan 2012 : 7:19:10 PM It also could be a timing issue, When my ECU was on its last legs it wasn't advancing the timing at all then it would advance, the result was the car leaped forward in speed and response. I had more tell tail signs, it was misfiring, no fuel regulation, stalling, and absolutely no power. You should be able to test the advancing with a strobe light, if its a clip on model just pull over set it up and give the motor a rev you will see it advance. I would first mark the TDC on the harmonic balancer so you can easily see the mark in sunlight. If you have access to another v8 vn-vr you'll have the same components to swap, since the EST could also can be part of the problem. You can replace your ECU with a V6 model just remember to swap the memcals. |

Posted - 23 Jan 2012 : 5:45:06 PM You said the exhaust note changes, almost sounds like something has come adrift in either the CAT the resonator or the muffler causing a restriction. |

Posted - 23 Jan 2012 : 3:09:37 PM its a vn station wagon with a series 2 5.0l v8, it has a stage 3 memcal in the ecu but done the running weird thing before and after the memcal was changed. its a auto, and i can notice the difference as soon as its started with the noise change so in neutral, park and in drive. it never does it when its already driving or running ok, only ever when i turn the car off when warm/hot and restart it. it does it pretty much every morning on the way to work when i stop at the bakery to get my food for the day and turn it off then start it up. its not just the noise, its like its about as powerfull as a 1.6l motor in a dodge ram haha. if you mean dual fuel as in do i change the mix? no always high octane pump gas. iv checked conections on ignition modude and ecu, they are clean, dry and no corrosion. |
