hey all

I've got a '91 VN Calais. Basically whats happening is say I drive in whether its blue D or the other D.. 1st is fine, but then in 2nd/3rd, it slips a tiny bit then 4th is fine.. But the funny thing is I can put the selector in 1st, and drive it manually until the D and it doesnt do any slippage.. so what do you suggest I get checked out? My problems are in D but not manually.. and I have no problems with reverse.

2nd gear band, and valve body. IT could just be that those bands are a bit worn, and need some "assistance" to engage. Check to see whether your trans oil looks healthy. Sometimes dirty oil can cause trouble. Healthy for auto trans fluid is a cherry red colour, unhealthy is closer to black, and may sometimes even smell burnt
