OK , i dont want to offend anyone here , but i have been thinking about something. Does a Car seat have a weight limit ? It seems everything else does....the strong hydraulic chair at the Dentists has a limit of 135 kg. The recliner rockers made by Janda have a 120 kg limit and many excercise bikes have limits of 80-120 kg.....and i recently read about a man of around 180 kg , that broke his VE seat several times. Another article about tyre ratings said the new Corvette isnt even legal for two 200 pound people in the front ! ( 200 pounds is about 90 kg)
As people are getting larger , its become a concern for car manufacturers....they are adapting , but what about in 1990 ?

My Drivers seat is holding up well ( im 85 kg) but i have a 135 kg friend, and ive kinda stopped taking her on long drives with me, as she will put all her weight on the seat back , and its only held up by a couple of steel bars, and i know those adjusting wheels give way .

Really , if you own the car , it doesnt matter, because you fix it.... anyway call me mean if you like , but im thinking of setting a weight limit on my passengers seat .

It's got a lot to do with how you drive, both your driving position, and how hard you drive. If you lean back in the seat, and hammer the accelerator a lot, it won't withstand that kind of stress. Sit up straight and drive casually most of the time, no problem. Not so long ago, I replaced the original VN front seats, and replaced them with VR/VS seats, disguising them to look like the original VN Execs. While the originals were structurally ok, the tears in the upholstery gave me a look inside the structure of it. The first thing to go is the cloth trim on the inside of the seat back, roughly where your ribs touch. Next is the bottom piece. The foam rubber can compress after a while and when it does so, tears the cloth "skin." While resilient, it's dependent on how much stress you put it under. If you drive no faster than 60km/h and take your sweet time getting there, your transmission will last longer than someone that thrashes the crap out of their car on a daily basis. A truck that carries around polystyrene foam every day wears slower than something carrying 10 tonnes of metal up hills all day

I find it interesting too, I'm 201kg and I drive a VN and my drivers seat is fine, I've had the car for 6 years now and it's great. I think the seats in newer cars are all cheaply made now along with everything else.

i find this interesting as well my ex gf's dad was about 130-150 mid 30's an a rev read he picked up a vp sedan one day an on the way home flogged the living **** out of it needless to say the little arms broke wen he gave it too much at the lights i grabbed the wheel till he sat back up then he drove normally after that

Thank you for that info...its going to make it easier to keep my friend out of the car. Frankly , i was sick of her whining about my choice in music anyway !

There would be some limits. I know that in mining equipment i.e. those overgrown Tonka toys have air suspension seats, and their weight limit is 130kg. Shudder to think what it is for truck drivers, as there are a lor of them a lot heavier than me. I would say at a conservative estimate, the VN-S seats would have a limit of about 100kg. The "cushion" at the bottom is pretty much a dense piece of solid foam rubber. There are no internal springs. It's supported around the bottom edges by a steel shell. Any hard stress on the seat back can break it. A friend of mine had a VS and his kids broke the seat back by pulling hard on it. One day it just broke the welds on one side
