Posted - 15 Jan 2013 : 12:07:49 PM after three years of driving this vn with the faulty odometer/trip meter I finally soughted it out after tossing the stock vn instrument cluster I went out bought one off a vp but it too had the same problem so I pulled the speedometer off the pair open up the mechanism and both had the same problem a grey plastic gear with teeth missing asyou get hold of this grey gear it was like a rubbery feel to it like it had a chemical reaction to the grease or oil the remaining teeth had crumbled off with your fingers so any way I rang a speedo repairer he wanted 180$ just to look at it then extra for the part so instead I went to the self serve wreckers and after gone through some vn,vp,vr, they had the same problem Because it was made by VDO instruments I thought I check the falcons of the same era after looking at one eb falcon it had a service repaired sticker on the back panel I see the mechanism is identical to the vn I opened it up and took the part which was a new one because it was a different colour and a harder type of plastic also the same size and same amount of teeth I have put the part in and it is working fine.im still using the vp instrument because it has the tacho my vn stock didn't have one and I couldn't fine one at the time plus I like the look of the vp display unit all I can advise to people who have this problem there is don't give up keep looking and bring a torx screwdriver set also I try upload some photos soon |

Posted - 21 Jan 2013 : 11:32:51 PM I had the gear replaced in mine by a company called AISAT Instruments in Western Australia. I know there's at least one place in Victoria tht does this kind of repair as well. Anyone that does vehicle instrument calibration will do it, I just happened to find one that knew what I was talking about before I even finished describing it |
