hi all i have a big problem my car wont start and I'm really really mad and I'm ready to burn it to the ground,

i started it 2 weeks ago to move it and it started fine moved it 1 meter and today it will not start i have check spark, fuel, done a code check and it came up code 12 everything is fine ,checked to see if the rockers were moving they are so its not a broken timing chain, done a compression test that's fine, i have tried everything i can think of i even moved the coil pack in case it wasn't earthing and still no luck i have tried to turn it over that much that now the battery has gone flat,

any suggestions be-for i start wrecking it

There was not a fault with the actual MAP sensor though buddy. It was still funtioning correctly so the ECM had no reason to throw a code.

thanks I'm glad its all sorted, I'm going to put some money into it so i can set up the inter-cooler as i believe that's why it happened (to much psi making hot air pumping into it) lesson learned hahaha, but still strange how the engine light didn't say map sensor fault

Excellent news buddy!!

wow what a problem. good to here you got it sorted.

OK well after getting really mad at my beast i decided to start ripping it apart, once i had the inlet manifold off i was taking a good look at it and noticed a really big crack at the back of it were the throttle body sits on the stock vn v6 so i took it over to the bloke next door and we did a pressure test on it and the crack was letting all the air out of it, so i got him to tig weld it up and i put it back on the car turned the key and it started right up, so yer the 2bar map sensor wasn't reading the boosted air coming in as it was going straight out the crack witch is why it would not start but now that it is going i am no longer a angry man

yer mate i checked to see if the injectors are pulsing with the old screwdriver trick and everyone of them make the clicking noise so then i got out the multimeter in case i was hearing things but all showed up perfect, so its getting fuel and spark but wont fire witch would indicate timing chain but the rockers are moving so it cant be that compression is perfect too so it cant be a valve seat or cracked piston, have i missed anything as i don't think i have ? ,my mechanic brother told me to take it to a mechanic shop and let the bloke he knows deal with it coz if he cant get it going he wont charge me, what do yous think should i give it to him to sort out and stand back laughing
VNSVLE Posted - 10 Nov 2011 : 1:48:55 PM
You said the fuel pump is pumping but are the injectors pulsing??
VNGRPA Posted - 08 Nov 2011 : 9:16:13 PM
yer mate i have checked all the fuses and relays, checked the fuel reg i even did a swap with a spare one i have, checked all the injectors, i don't have a airflow meter i have a map sensor so i checked that and i even replaced it with a spare one i have, i have checked everything i can think of did the first step to get a motor to start fuel and spark they are both fine so i moved to the timing chain and checked to see if the rockers were moving and they are so the timing chain is not broken, its got me stumped i might have to take it to a mechanic even tho i pretty much am one, i even got my brother to take a look at it as he has finished his mechanics courses and has his certs and he told me i have done everything right by checking it but he cant get it to start as-well its the weirdest thing it just will not fire up its the hardest jigsaw puzzle i have come across that's for shore

I take it your fuel pressure reg is working, and not choked up by anything? It's dangerous to check from one of the injector lines directly, but the closer to the port you can check, the more you can rule it out. Another one is the airflow meter. Is there the tiniest possibility it's the airflow meter? After all, it's this sensor that tells the system how MUCH fuel gets pumped in. Never had that problem myself, but just trying to add some pieces to the jigsaw puzzle that might fit

Well if you have spark in all cyl, and the spark Leads are on the correct plug, & you have compression then the only other thing is fuel.

One thing to remember with ECUs they can lie, They only bring up fault codes if they detect a problem.

Are all your fuses ok, Main, Engine?? One other thing to check is the EFI relay, I'm sure you can swap it with either headlight or horn relay. To Test if the relay is working: With your ignition on (no cranking) you should be able to read +12V from an injectors red wire to chasis or motor.

yer mate i checked every spark plug and they are all sparking, i checked every lead with the spark plug on and off ,that's when i checked the compression of every cylinder and there all good, i have a brand new ecu with a memcal to suit the supercharger and injectors for the 12 psi, the strange thing is that the car started up first time every time then i moved it to the other driveway that i have prob 5 meters then 2 weeks later witch was yesterday the car wont start and there are no engine codes coming up, this is the first time in a long time that i don't know whats going on, i have read and checked every thing that my cert 1,2,and 3 mechanic's books say and i'm coming up with nothing, i'm starting to think i might have to strip it down and rebuild it again but if i do that i'm going to put the 4.2 stroker kit in it that i'm paying off
kingbucktoo Posted - 08 Nov 2011 : 10:58:37 AM
If your crank sensor was faulty?? wouldn't you have no spark, as the crank sensor is used to reference the ecu to the the DFI. Did you have spark on another cyclinder? Did you remove a spark plug and see it wet with fuel???

With the modifications to your car did you get the memcal reprogrammed to suit the supercharger, and the larger injectors. After pulling my hair out over my jallopy not going, I started reading about the ECU programming, Larger injectors need to have some parameters changed so That you dont flood the car when cranking. As the battery voltage starts to lower under cranking load the ECU adjusts the injectors to squirt more fuel.

sounds like crank sensor a but the code isnt coming up for it ?
VNGRPA Posted - 07 Nov 2011 : 9:22:16 PM
it cranks mate but it wont fire up
voodoo92 Posted - 07 Nov 2011 : 9:08:03 PM
what happens when u turn the key?
VNGRPA Posted - 07 Nov 2011 : 7:46:29 PM
checked everything i can think of mate I'm at a loss i thought it might be the coil pack (DFI) module but I'm getting spark so the next step was the fuel so i checked that it was pumping into the motor by putting the fuel lines into a empty coke bottle and the fuel started fulling the bottle so i ruled that out, if it was the crank sensor it would show up on the code check and it read code 12 every thing is fine, that's when i thought the timing chain was buggered so i checked the rockers and they were moving up and down so that rules that out, so that's when i checked the compression and you guessed it that's fine as well, i even swapped the 2 bar map sensor with a spare new one and that didn't work either, now the battery is flat and i am out of ideas, my only hope is that someone has had the same problem and can shed some light on the subject
