In the not too distant future, I will be building a WB one tonner powered by a VP spec V6. I knwo some Ecotecs have Borg-Warner T5s, but can anyone tell me whether I'll need adaptor plates to make a V8 T5 bolt up to a VP V6? And if so, does anyone know anybody in WA that makes them? MY Brother in law had a VT with a T5, which is why I'm asking. I don't want an Ecotec, as they're a. too complex in the electronics for what I have in mind and b. I'm not a fan of alloy heads.

For the moment, it's just research. I'm working out what I need to make the conversion work before even looking for the parts. I already know most of what I need, and mostly where to get it. It won't be for about a year or two before I can even start on the project. All I have so far are the parts I managed to salvage from my HZ, most of which are interior bits.

When I start this project, Stage 1 will be to strip a VN or VP to source most of the parts. Those of you whom need bits will be welcome to what I don't need, which will be about 60% of the car.

No worries buddy. In that case yes if you can get a V6 bell housing it will bolt straight to a V8 T5. Also make sure you remember that you will need the input shaft and flywheel from a v6 for it to work.
Have you got the V8 T5 already do you??
If you do and have no use for the input shaft and bell housing I would be interested in them if you were wanting to part with them.
Cheers

I figure the bell housings would be different, I was thinking of how the M21 Aussie 4 speed was fitted to both 6 and V8 models in the Kingswoods and early Commodores, and the main difference between the two were the bell housings. Both bell housings bolted onto the same gearbox, and have the same clutch mechanism and mounts. What I was getting at, was is there a ready made bell housing I can just bolt on, or do I have to mess around with adaptor plates?

The bell housing and input shaft are different between the v6 and the v8 T5 buddy. The ecotecs I believe came with the Getrag 5 speed in place of the T5. Actually if I remember correctly everthing after the VP (possibly vr) came with the getrag 5 speed and I am not sure of the fit up to be honest.
If you have a choice of the Getrag or the T5 go the T5 it is a much nicer box to drive. Alot smoother.
