Posted - 04 Jun 2012 : 6:23:57 PM Yeah there will always be faster cars mate. I want to be able to go in the 12s, sound good and be a reliable drive so I can go cruising without worry about blowing something up. |

Posted - 03 Jun 2012 : 9:41:45 PM hahaha all good mate its your car after all, my old vn went harder then any skyline and sounded 10x better then most v8's but that was running a 12psi supercharger however that would smash any 355 stroker every time without fail and considering they paid around $8000+ compared to my $1000 i was more then happy every time i saw them in my rear view mirror |

Posted - 03 Jun 2012 : 9:19:19 PM If i wanted a car that went hard and SOUNDED like **** id get a skyline. Sorry mate but i can't stand v6s. I've never heard one that sounded good and i know if i spend money on one I'd wish i spent it on a v8 |

Posted - 28 May 2012 : 8:20:03 PM it might be a bit off topic but if it was up to me i would twist your arm until you decided to just stroke the 3.8L v6 to a 4.2L i have seen and been in a few and i got to say the price you will pay for your 5L conversion will just disappoint you when a v6 with cai, exhaust and rockers fly past you, just imagine putting a cam and over sized pistons in that v6, add that all up and put it in the EH and you got one hell of a car, after reading all that a v8 doesn't sound that good but its all up to you and what your going to use the v8 for. good luck with the build |

Posted - 28 Apr 2012 : 2:30:06 PM my v6 destroys 5lt like nothing they are lazy piece of ****. you stroke it to 355 just to compete with a stock LS |

Posted - 27 Apr 2012 : 11:50:17 PM First generation LS1s were a bit of a lemon. They were prone to burning oil in unusually high quantities. A Holden 5 litre is built stronger, has better low-end torque, not to mention the harnesses to do the conversion are readily available. If you MUST have more the 5 litres displacement, a 308 can be bored and stroked to a 355 with a little bit of work. The only real disadvantage they have, although some would say advantage, is that they have a block of solid cast iron. |

Posted - 18 Apr 2012 : 1:43:37 PM Another thing you should look into is whether your springs are up to the job. In Commodores of any model they do vary between V6 and V8. In the HQ-WB, they were stiffer to cope with the extra weight and torque of a V8.
As for driveline, if you could find a Torana 3:08 diff with discs attached, it might be simpler than modifying a VN diff to fit (assuming you haven't already done that. Standard brake upgrade is usually HQ ventialted discs at the front. Be wary of the fact that a Kingswood disc rotor is a tight fit for a Commodore rim. It will fit, but if it were me, I'd shave half a millimetre off the centre of the disc hub if you're fitting Commodore rims. |

Posted - 18 Apr 2012 : 10:54:55 AM The other upgrade you have to think about is brakes. I'm not sure if you have had them upgraded when you changed from a straight 6 to V6. So you'll need to have to have a braking system equivallent to a production car of same V8 power, of similar weight. So the quickest way is copy or better the VN braking system is the quickest way to get an Engineering Compilance Plate, Ventilated Discs of at least 290mm front single pot and 279mm rear discs in the rear.

Posted - 17 Apr 2012 : 7:00:15 PM The K-frame will need to be changed aswell and if you go to a carby intake that will do away with all the ecu and make things easier and being a EH you can have a carby legally!

Posted - 01 Apr 2012 : 9:23:18 PM Mounts are different, tailshaft different, other than that I cant say for sure what else you may need. I would suggest getting hold of a complete car with engine of choice unless you have engine already that is. Cheers |
