im thinking about upgrading my exhaust system to a 2.5 inch Cat Back Sports Exhaust with the straight through tail pipe and a high flow cat converter.
i Know these sound good and increase performance on the VN V6
but im not sure How well this setup will Perform On a VN V8
or should i go 3 inch instead?

any information you could give me id be really grateful :)

It's definitely enough for a V6. I once saw a 4 inch exhaust on an HZ 308 (the last metre) and the rest of the exhaust up to the headers was somewhere near 3 inches, and there's no way that was street legal.

I don't remember what they call this class of blacktop racing, I once saw a race at Barbagallo that had V8 Toranas, Falcons and Ford Escorts. The Toranas mostly had open headers, exiting behind the front wheel, but even they weren't the loudest thing on the track. It was the 2 litre Escorts, and the engine note was like a needle through the eardrum.

I thought with the VN v8 or v6 that a 50mm(2"inch) system was adaqaute enough. any bigger it causes probs .

Although to a point, anything you do to reduce restriction to exhaust flow will improve both fuel economy and power, not to mention will usually make the engine sound a bit angrier. There's a certain point where a bigger bore exhaust will just make it louder, and sometimes even retard performance. You see a lot of ricers with their 4 inch fart can mufflers, and all that does is make a 4 cylinder sound terrible!

Sorry I was thinking the VN had the cast headers like the later models. The VN's run the tubular headers the same as the later model HSV's.
Although they are prone to cracking they are a good header for a standard to mild 5 litre.
I stand corrected thanks kingbucktoo!!

VNSLE why don't you like the factory VN V8 headers???

I have looked at them thinking I could get some improvement with some mandrel bent pipes for the Y & a high flow cat.
I also have been wondering about the size of the exhaust back, but I was looking for a reasonably quiet system So I was going to keep the two mufflers.
Again my car has no head or cam work done. The price of extractors for a 5% improvement is not worth it on a stock motor.

Only other thing I would consider would be a good set of extractors to go with the system.
Cheers

the shame has disappeared man thanks to you :)
im gonna take your advice and stick with 2.5 cos im not planning on any other mods.
i also upgraded my throttle body to a 70mm, i forgot to mention that bro.

No shame in that buddy!!
Personally I would be going 2 1/2 unless you plan on doing some major work in the near future that would warrant the 3 inch system.

im ashamed to say none :( only a rising rate fuel regulator. and i upgraded to a inline bosch 044 fuel pump.
