I'm looking at getting a new head unit and would like some help. I want one with a usb port on the back so i can plug a portable hard drive into it. I have seen heaps around but i really like the look of the Alpine iDA-X001 http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp?modelID=287
Does anyone know of this unit or does someone have a better head unit. Money not really a problem. Although probably looking at about the $700 mark which this unit is. Thank You.

Thats a nice head, but a bit too much to spend on a single unit I think. Just so you know, you can buy products a LOT cheaper off dealers rather than Alpine direct.
Get one with an iPod connection or mp3 connection, cheaper, easier to use, and can carry music with you :D
Thats what I got |

why you want a hard drive plugin so much? I'll link my head as soon as I get home, I forget the type.

definatly the alpine, worth every cent, my bro's and i have never turned back after hearing the clarity of the alpine, you can go all out by being an eclipse but remember that good speakers must be installed for your expensive head deck to be noticed. i recommended focal polyglass series or Din Audio. IMO |

Hey,
I have the iDA-x001, with a portable hard drive hooked up to it.
The problem I have with it is that when I turn it off and on again, it forgets the song it was up to and if I'd put it on shuffle, it reverts back to normal play.
Does anyone know if this an installation problem or is it just something to do with hooking up portable hard drives to it? |

mate i swear by alpine all the way. $700 for that unit is an awesome price. the alpine head unit im after retails for about $1700. and that particular head unit is awesome. if u want good sound in ur car there is no point going out and buying good speakers if u dont have a good signal to start with, and this is where most ppl get caught out "i bought awesome speakers but they rnt working as good as i was told they would"..... "get a good head unit... thats where all the sound is comming from in the first place right?? |
