Well, I done the big service and its running like a dream :|, took it to mt gambier on the open roads i was suprised with the trip computer saying avg fuel was 8.0L/100km :| on a 300,000km old motor lol...

replaced speedo sensor and speedo works perfict
replaced TPS and it stalled once (cause it was held at full lock with a/c on and i was told its common for vn's to stall like that anyway) - alltho it doesn't have the little spring and plastic cover in the TPS...

Had the a/c regassed for a slab of VB (lol $30 comperd to the $80 i had been quoted)

next problem is the heaters dont work... going on the road trip they worked going down the freeway when it was held in 3rd doing a hill climb... or in stop go traffic but yeah the temp gauge wont go up either :S, my dad sudgest maybe it had the thermostat removed at some stage, would that be causing that?

anyways spelling is **** but too tired to worry about it lol

thanks guys!

If the car is running cold then yes i would be replacing the thermostat(if it has one in it). Running cold usually means the thermo is missing or malfunctioning. Thermo is cheap and reasonably easy to install yourself.

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

just replace it and inspect the old one(if there is one), why did you do the tps sensor, was it playing up before? did you install it yourself? when you said the tps has no spring, do you mean if you open it to 100% then release it does it return home? sorry for the questions but if you put the sensor in wrong, or its faulty it will mess with the air/fuel ratio. and if you have no thermostat it will run the ecu in choke/warmup mode which is a richer mix then when the motors warmed up....

Cheers,
Nodg.

Nodg if the engine is running rich it would be using alot of fuel. From what he is saying it is excellent on fuel.

i took that into account, along with the possibility on an innaccurate trip computer and an innacurate temperature gauge.

Replaced the tps as the car had a major stalling fault... only times its stalled since i replaced it was when it is held at full lock in reverse (thanks to the missus lol) and yeah, its allways had the problem with heaters...

But it is excellent on fuel, over easter it doen 1467km to 120 or 150L, either way i was suprised for a 20yo, 300,000km motor thats still yet to be opend up

if your getting a reading off the trip computer the transducer must be working, sounds like you need a new dash
