Hi guys/gals, I am having troubles getting a part of the steering wheel(I have no idea what its called) off. The Story goes, someone tried to steal my car, i think, and i think they must have tried to stand on the steering wheel to break the steering lock but instead broke the wheel itself. It is an old momo wheel and i think it had a boss kit to make it fit on. anyway i took the broken bit off wheel off but there is another black metal part under the nut that i cant budge at all. I have taken the nut off but i cant get te other part off. Doea anyone have any tips to get this off or even if it should come off( looks like it has too for original wheel to fit) as i am completely clueless on all things cars...any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Dane

hi trizo, thanks for the reply. i got a wheel puller from super cheap but the bit i need to take off has no holes for the 2 bolts on the puller to screw into..? will try get pics on. And heres an attempt to explain it better in the mean time.. the actual wheel itself is a momo brand and it has four straight bits of metal that were attached to a round black disc shaped piece of metal that goes over the steering shaft and is held in place by the nut. Now the wheel has been broken and the four pieces of metal on the wheel (directly behing centre cap) have been twisted and snapped off the piece still on the steering column( behind the nut). on the piece thats still on the column there are only the four slots where the snapped parts would have slotted in(im guessing). And there are no holes in this piece that you screw the bolts from the puller into. Before it was broken you just pulled the wheel and the whole lot came off but its to hard to get a grip on whats left. i tried to lever it using a large screw driver, moving around the circumference but it doesnts move and i dont want to pull too hard incase i damage whats behind it.

does yours steering wheel have a unique screws in it that you can only undo with a special tool or are they just alen keys.

couldn't they have brought another wheel along with them taken yours off and put on another?

You would be suprised Leebo. According to statistics, Australia's #1 stolen car is the VN. I dont know when these statistics were taken (probably when they were new), but if you buy street commodore magazine, you frequently read about them being stolen, and i have seen posts on here about VN theft. The VN is noted for being "the easiest car to break into and steal". Has me worried every time i take mine out and park it somewhere.

vn91sx is right in the fact the vn was and is the most stolen car as far as imobilized cars go! The gemini was the easiest for the fact that all you needed was a fork to open the door and the ignition! Forks make wicked keys
