Heya troops...

Wanted to ask if anyone could throw some ideas at me..... or what I should check....

I had a tail shaft problem where the car would shake terribly and a very loud metal on metal slapping noise.... (had a previous questions already up on the site) I noticed that there was fraying in the centre part of the tail shaft which I thought was the culprit!!

Now I have replaced it with another tail shaft, there is no shuddering so obviously the centre bearing was buggered....

Now there is a ticking noise?? Soft but gets a little louder when driving.... When the car is in idle I can rev it high without the noise present.... I jacked up off the road and rev'd in drive with no ticking noise... I previous checked the wheels and there was nothing that I could notice....

The ticking noise only happens when the car is moving (or in drive) and you are building up to a speed (like driving the streets)

I thought maybe that the car only does this noise when moving, that it has nothing to do with the tail shaft and could be a Diff thing, or Gearbox thing.... GOD HELP ME.... I would like to fix this, but I am running out of ideas...

PLEASE HELP

I was just think for the reason of if I'm asking for advice on my car because i only paid $400 lol people just say replace anything for a start then modify it lol.

But if you have paid alot for it and it's in good nic no point saying replace bushed, rods crankshaft when it may be i only one thing wrong i have found this out with mine by for example changing the leads and plugs when all it needed was a coil pack lol.

but however i suppose when you replace the stuff it's not going to become a problem later.

anyway i didn't mean any offense buy what you paid for it it just probably makes if harder to rule out possible problems.

but anyway i do hope you get to the bottom of this problem...

i wouldnt and couldnt tell you what u need and how to do it. i got my old man to fix it. that loud ticking noise was like a grinding sound right ? does it only make the noise when in first gear if so it must be a common problem with vns because mine also did it. you might need to service the transmittion ? cheers

Nah you didnt offended me Leebo.... I paid a real good price, body is straight, very clean engine, no rust.... I expect to change a few things... I know I have to change the lower control arm bushes..... The interior is the only thing I have had to clean up....

I figured out what the hell front end bearings are DUH front wheel bearings.... These are one of the first things my uncles taught me to change, so I am right there, I know what to do.... WHOOPA!!

I will give that a go, then maybe servicing the transmission would be a good idea.... BIG JOB....

Hey Hey.... Guess who is a nob?? I found out where the ticking noise came from, cause as I started the car after a few days of sitting I heard a dreadful knocking/tapping noise from the engine.... It was the AC compressor, the bearing had gone in it!! Going to disconnect it..... I figured this was the noise I could hear when driving, it just got worse after a while... lol Thank god it was nothing major!!!
