Hey guys, new to the forums here, read some posts and am finding some good reading :)

I am having troubles with my 91 VN S and am running a self diagnostic and getting error code 41. I have had this problem before and my mechanic replaced the Crank Angle Sensor and it worked fine for some time. Now it's happening again. Any ideas what else could be the problem? If it is again the CAS what could be causing it to fail so much?

The symptoms I am getting before the code are:
1: Engine cuts out whilst driving, can be a little dangerous if it cuts out at the wrong time :( Happens rarely, but when it does will happen a couple of times after i get it turning over again.
2: No start, engine trys to turn over but doesn't. I've tested for spark and have spark, tested fuel pump and fuel pump does engage.
3: Occasionly the engine jolts as if it is trying to stall but doesn't,this only happens maybe once every couple of trips and this brings up the check engine light straight away. Code 41.

I have my mechanic coming to look at it on Monday and would like to find some other suggestions to the cause to put to him when he comes.

Cheers
Matt

Code 41 - No Crankshaft input signals. This can be caused by either the crank angle sensor failing, or the coil pack dying. Check the electrical connections to both the CAS and to the DFI module.
When the car dies next time pore water over the Crank angle sensor cooling it down and if this is the problem the car should start straight away.

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

sounds like the coil pack dying, same thing happened to mine, you'll drive around and it will just cut out, then maybe after the second go it will start again and then stall again down the road, because i had the S1 coil pack i went to a S2 and all my troubles went away, mine came up with code 41 but it had nothing to do with the crank.

The diagnostics systems on vn's are sometimes faulty and the whole thing replaced and it tells you there a problems there aren't and when there is it says nothing.

It's always possible that the new crank angle sensor has failed again and it may have been faulty from factory. If it's telling you that maybe spend $60 to do it again to make sure before spending say $150 on new coil pack.

But it's up to you hope you get to the bottom of it.

I'll show you the Rick James cell. It's superfreaky!.

Mechanic is now coming around Wednesday with a new EFI module. He said he did some research and came to the conclusion that it shouldnt be the CAS again and because its an intermittent problem it shouldnt be a wiring problem, so he is going to try a new module first and go from there.

Well we replaced the DFI module, and did a mini service at the same time, (new fuel and oil filter, new tranny/brake/pwrstr fluids) so now to drive it round and see if I have any further problems.

Both me and my mechanic hate intermittant problems as you can't tell if you have fixed the problem straight away :(
