Hi guys the bottom end bearing in my 3.8L buick died not to long ago , and im not sure what way i should go i have a few ideas and would like to see what you guys think , my first option is to replace my engine with a second hand one for 1200 , or maybe rebuild my engine thats in it now , or put either a series two vl rb30 engine into it and then later on the put a turbo on it , or stick a holden 304 engine into it , i know its up to me what i put into my car but i want to work my engine in my ute, is it worth spending a bucket load on a buick or puting another engine in there , how hard of a conversion is it to put an rb30 into a vg ute , i read in a street commodores book that when they first were making the vn commodores some of the early models had rb30s in them but they ditched the rb30 because it got to expensive to import it to australia and went with the buick instead , anyways cheers guys .

I would go a second handy if its just for daily driving but if you got the bucks andfwant a bit of bang outta the motor a rebuild is always good,, if your planning on turbo'n or charging the ute a rebuild is always the best option!! Also what motor are you getting for $1200 and were , cause m8 thats way over the top for a second hand vn motor, I picked mine up with 150k kms on it for $200 not a thing wrong with it! But from the sounds of it you want to do a conversion , if thats the case be prepared to break the bank! Im not knockin the vn's but if your gonna do somthing like a rb 30 ect dont put it in a vn ,, basically if your planning on even going down that road , it would be cheaper to buy a stinked up skyl;ine or something! |

Its 1200 for a second hand engine and thats put in as well with 3 month warranty , i thought that buying a second hand rb30 na series 2 would be a cheap way because i could keep it na and when i get enough bucks i can put a turbo on it , but yea just tossing up what i want to do , cheers |

I have helped my mate put in a 304 in then out of my vr statesman i owned once , the only thing stoping me and my mate doing the conversion our selves is the wireing , he says he doesnt wana touch it because the wireing looks like a nightmare , how hard is it to hook all the wires etc back up , and whats the most i should pay for a series 1 engine cheers |

the wiring is simple ,, it all plugs backm in the way it come out , there is no way u can mess it up! also you dont want a s1 motor ,, most of them will be flogged out with well over 300.000kms om them , mind you , you could prolly get a rebuilt one (s1 motor) for around $600-700 but then again you could always get a s2 motor (better imo) with stuff all kms on clock for around $2-300 |

youd be lucky to find a series 1 as trizo says
i replaced my series one auto with 220ks with a series 1 manual with 190ks and that was the luckiest luck ive had in a while finding that.
manual motor, loom and full conversion kit for NZ$450, not rubbing it in or anything, maybe a little.
And trizo - Series 1 FTW! |
Just be thankful you got two legs to stand on and hands to grab sh*t with! |

lmao the s1 motors (WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT) were the duxks nutz , but as far as age and wear on the motor of one now days , there sh1t.... Dont get me wrong here I have had a few gnarly s1 motors , but as far as stuff not breaking and a more reliable engine ,, I say the s2 motor |

what? Its easier to put the s1 motor in?? Tell the guy he is a snapper(make sure its not ya dad or sumthing lol) The S2 motor is by far the easier of the 2 to fit regardless if your goin from 1 to the other!! Some mechanics are complete idiots! were do you live m8? Im sure there is one of our members around that could help you fit it!! hell if I was in your state Id do it for a carton of beer its that easy! |
