try the commodore wreckers in southport, right near the hospital! A rebuilt box will set you back around 2000 where a second hand box will be 2-400 dollars from the wreckers or online... |

You may have already but have you checked the fluid level?? To check warm it up by taking it for a drive (if you can that is) Then on level ground engine running handbrake on and transmission in neutral check the level. If this is low it is possible that this could be causing it to shift erratically You can get a second hand ignition and key setup pretty cheap on ebay to replace yours pretty easy job also. With yours though get some graphite powder and put it in the key hole and work the key in and out backwards and forwards. This may free up the steering lock mechanism |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

Then again, you could always remove the lock mechanism altogether and put it on the bench. Did this to a VR a couple of months back. The lock mechanism was jammed, and it is held in place by a hinge on one side, and I think a bolt on the other side (get an allen key set to be sure.) The internals of the lock mechanism can be a right pain in the arse to remove. It is possible to "recode" a lock barrel at home.
A lock barrel is a line of spring loaded forks, that line up to the cut pattern on the key. When they do, the forks retract, and the lock barrel will turn. You can buy a new ignition barrel off the shelf, and if you you doubt yourself in doing this, a locksmith will do it for about $20-$30 |
