Hi - my cruise control doesn't want to work. The green l;ight on the button comes on when I put cruise on but it won't hold any speed. I have unplugged and replugged the BCM and I have checked all the brake lights are working and adjusted the brake switch to ensure it is not 'on' but still no luck.
any suggestions of what else to do ro look for ?
Thanks - Ken

Either the cruise control switch module is stuffed or the cruise control mechanism under the hood is burnt out.

Cheers,
Nodg.

OK - might try pulling the switches out and check them. Would be easy to swap in a good cruise unit to test if it is that but there are no wreckers or anything within 400kms :-(

Also check your brake switch have had similar symptoms with them. Another possibility is that the gearing in the module is stripped or the fibre tape that the mechanism actually "pulls on" could be broken. Not a big job to pull the top off the module and have a look. I have one here that has the plastic gears stripped in it.

Let us know how you get on buddy and good luck :)

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

I've just realised after reading on justcommodores that my CRS light on the dash board doesn't come on - so will start with checking all the dash wiring.

Cruise light will only come on if the module is active. It gets it's feed directly from the module. The pink wire in the plug on the cruise module should be the power feed. Make sure with the ignition on you have 12 volts here. If you do not have 12 volts here check the fuse and make sure it is not blown( even if you have checked it just double check to be sure ). If the fuse is good and you dont have power to the module then you have a break somewhere in that pink wire.

Just a note if you dont already have a multimeter go down to supercheap/autobarn or such a shop and buy yourself a cheap one as it will come in handy especially for this type of work. The cheap ones are just as accurate as the expensive ones they are just not built to last.

See how you go with that and let us know what you find
Cheers

I went over it all today with my multimeter - there is power everywhere when and where it should be. ie; the brake light switch is working, the on/off set and resume switches are all working as checked at the control module. I also took the control module apart and all is good inside. So I can only assume it is the control module that has failed. Anybody got a spare one they can send me to check hahaha

I guess you can be thankful you're not driving a late model Ford Explorer, where the cruise control had a mind of its own, and Ford were insisting the whole time "it couldn't possibly be our 5-star engineering that failed!" That poor bugger who managed to pull up only about 5 metres from the end of a T-junction exit off a Melbourne freeway.

On a serious note, just check to make sure there's no corrosion anywhere in the wiring. You could have power there, but a crap connector, whether loose or rusty, can make the difference between working and not working. Just before you start buying anything expensive, that is. Have no idea what they cost, but being a potentially 20-year old part (if new isn't available) but better to know for sure that "This part is @#$&ed!" for certain before buying a replacement.
