hey guys. i broke down today, lucky was only a blown fuse for the fuel pump 30amp. not sure why though. was running on gas at the time, but the gas is supplied by the fuel pump fuse, which feeds the gas fuse (7.5 amp). gas fuse didnt blow. the only thing i could think of was it was hot day, 41 in adelaide today, and next to no fuel in tank. any ideas? can the fuel pump run dry and get hot or something? fuel pump is only 2 years old.

When the fuel is low, or runs dry, the pump has to work harder to get the fuel moving. If they run dry altogether, they can die, and this could create enough resistance to blow a fuse. Be thankful is was a fuse man, it can be an expensive part to replace |

if i wanted to move the gas system supply away from the fuel pump fuse, what would be the best wire to bridge off in the engine bay. would have to be hooked to an accessories wire, but which one is most accessible. the fuse is currently next to the fuse box on the drivers side on the engine bay. really caught me out not being able to run petrol or gas would like to be able to swap if a fuse blows again to get me off the road at least. |

Use something that runs off the ignition loom, that has nothing to do with the engine directly. Something of a reasonable amperage, that is ignition fed. The only "moving parts" on an LPG system are a couple of valves, and the all important solenoids. One turns off the fuel, one opens the gas tank. I know there's a couple of circuits on the harness you could use, for example, the power feed to the radiator fan is an example of something that runs off the ignition harness. |

well i havent changed any wiring yet, but thought id bridge out the fuel pump to see if it was running. no noises from the back of the car, but when i flick the gas switch, the gas solenoid clicks so i'm guessing my fuel pump is rooted. when i broke down though, i changed the fuse and turned the car on and could hear the fuel pump and it sounded sweet. no rough noises etc. now im a bit worried cos i start a new job tomorrow that involves a lot of driving and dont wanna break down again. maybe i should disconnect the fuel pump and just have the relay feed the gas? any ideas would be great. |
