Hi there - we have a 1989 VN - she stalls at any speed but more likely when the engine is warming up - the prob is worse in really cold days (ie: NZ cold days, not aussie cold days!)
The CPU has been replaced and the brake booster also - this fixed a pre-existing vacuum leak. The problem is totally random and can spring from no where. Plugs just replaced. I reckon this is a fuel-feed problem. I have read on checking the fuel filter - do i also need to check the throttle body? Where do i find this?
Engine lite comes on when she does altho the garage reckons there's no memory kept so they cant ID the code????
cheers! si

Check your fuel line from the tank to the injectors. If all of that checks out, check the fuel pressure regulator; a tiny vacuum actuated valve towards the back of the intake maifold. If it still is a problem, then start checking the throttle body, and the idle air control valve. In diagnosing anything, go for the "stupid and blindingly obvious" first, then you start branching out into obscure things if all the obvious things are ok. |

Hey there - cleaned the IACV and throttle body - It did make a bit of a difference. Also changed the fuel pump relay, and cleaned plug connector at fuel tank to the actual fuel pump - water had been getting into it and possibly dirtying up the connecting pins. Next is the fuel pressure regulator - how do you check that this is operating properly? Just squirt some WD40 into it? Or simply replace with another one if possible? Cheers! |

A fuel pressure regulator valve should be easy to source, but the quickest way to check it would be take it off, connect a small length of vacuum tube to the vacuum fitting, and suck on the end. You should "feel" the valve moving. If it resists a lot, just replace it. |
