Hands up what kind of bargains you've got over the years? My brother has managed to get a few. He asked me to find a VX/VY Commodore wagon, and his budget was $9000. I found a dead straight VX Exectutive, with about 120,000 on the clock (2008) and $9990 on the windscreen. Knowing what I know about car yards, I figured he could easliy lop the $990 off. I was wrong! He lopped $1500 off the price, upped it to 12 months rego, and nearly twisted this bloke's arm for window tinting as well!
My own had been smaller wins. Once saw a VN Lexcen in someone's driveway that looked like it had been raided for parts. He said it was headed for the scrapyard. I asked if I could take some bits off it. Scored a spare alternator, some roof racks, an ashtray, some tailgate struts, a tail light, headlights, indicators and grille, and all it cost me was time. For good measure, I stripped out all the relays and the drive belt. If only I'd had more tools!

I scored my old vn (1990 BT1) for $150! Had custom paint job, wheels, window tint, stereo, didn't have to do anything to it, was unregistered but it only cost me about $300 to get it roadworthy! |
I'd gladly push my holden than drive a bloody ford! |

Was it that the previous owner was ignorant, or desperate? Even for an unregistered one, in good nick it's definitely worth more than that |

Speaking of wrecking cars in the driveway, if anyone in Brisbane wants some parts from a 90' executive sedan im wrecking one but it wont be around for to much longer. as soon as i loose this sickness of mine im finishing taking the parts i need off it and getting it taken away. Ive already taken a bit off of it but there might be something someone still wamts. email me if someone wants something. just letting you know more likely then not ive already got it or its broken or if not you have to remove it yourself. To sick and its to hot though i will help if needed. good for learning :)

What a sucker! lol. It didn't even dawn on him why you'd be willing to pay $2500 for an unregistered car? |

The craziest one I've evr heard of, was a bloke whom found a genuine Phase 3 GTHO in a farmer's shed in the late 80s. He paid $600 for it, and it was in pretty bad shape. He did a lot of rust cutting, bodywork, and an obvious recon on the engine and driveline. About $20,000 all up. Today, real Phase IIIs have been known to change hands for $500,000+ at auctions. |
