Hey there, just wondering if anyone had any ideas on increasing power and performance (legally) on a series one VN (3.8L v6 Auto). Yes i'm an amateur so feel free to dumb it down if you like. Cheers.

Hey mate. Here's some easy simple ones. Extractors. A good sports exhaust system. 8mm ignition leads. New spark plugs. Cold air intake. Performance chip. Just a few to get ya started mate!

you could install a corvette servo into the gear box, easy to do i did one today on me VS (same setup as one on a VN etc) it increasses performance a bit , helps with the gear box too, and pretty cheap and good for teh money :) |

Thanks for the ideas guys, i've been here there and everywhere on the net and have gotten some pretty good ideas. So far i'm short on cash but i've managed to install a pod filter and made a custom CAI. Next on the to do list is 10mm spark plug leads and iridium spark plugs. From there i plan to chuck in some roller rockers, stage one cam, and series two coil pack. I'm not fussed on the car looking stock so i wouldn't mind some half decent 17inch mags, and a body kit. @jas89, yeah i wouldn't mind modifying the gearbox, good idea. |

I picked up a vp coil pack today, picked it up from the local wreckers for a pretty good price. Things is i need to test it with a multimeter to ensure it's in good working order. Would anyone know the ohms rating i should be looking for? Thanks. |

With ignition off resistance between the primary terminals of each coil should be between 0.3 and 1.5 ohms. Resistance between high tension terminals of each coil should be between 5 and 7 k/ohms. If they are not within these values they are no good and will require replacing. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

Yep all good on the coil pack, will be installing that on the weekend along with plugs and leads. Also keeping an eye out for a decent V8 throttle body. |

Well it may offer a little more air flow, and i'll take whatever HP gains i can get with the dollars i have to spend, that being not much. I'm definitely going for a custom tuned memcal, i would like to complete all mods first though. Yep i'm saving up for a good exhaust system, ideally from the manifold back but failing that from the catalytic converter back. I've already installed a custom CAI, i've noticed a slight improvement in acceleration. Would anyone be able to recommend a wreckers in South East Queensland where i may be able to score an LSD? I'm confident it would still be cheaper to get a second hand one a have it reconditioned as opposed to purchasing a new one. Cheers! |

when ya got the $$ mate contact delcowizzid just p.m him for the memcal it will cost ya $80 for the tuned memcal just tell him what ya got and he will tune for ya mate hope it helps, me personally i went for the straight through catback system only cause i didn't have the $ for the pacemakers mate still sounds good but not much gain so will have to put a new cat high flow of course but thats just suggestions mate |

Darn, car stalled out with new coil pack. Will get it checked out by an auto sparky to make sure it's all good, funny i got a good result from the tests i ran. Probably a good thing i was playing with it as i've discovered the old coil pack is oozing some kind of goo from one side. I'm not sure what it is but it's more than likely due to being exposed to heat for a long period of time. @ lovevncomms, yeah i'll try to get onto delcowizzid, either that or grab a hsv memcal off ebay for $70. |

Gday ,mate when you talk performance, how do you want your car to perform? If you just want to do donuts and drift you dont need to have horsepower. A decent lsd ,change in diff gear ratio and high stall convertor can do the same job.If you want to know more just ask? |

if you want a play toy the mods i suggested will work straight away or you could spend thousands of dollars on a car that will pull REALLY cool one wheel skids! |

Cheap stage1 memcal-upgrade chip that suits perfect what you're gonna do is the SV3800 chip, just go down to your local holden dealer or similar place and ask for a replacement SV3800 chip (i asked my old skool mechanic to lookup z part no 4 me cus his factory is mega) Then i just rang up holden dealer down z road and asked for that part #. TOTAL cost(New part)= $105 and it has a perfect memcal map-setup (cus its Gen Holden part) to suit a stage 1 upgrade(cold air, biga throttle bod, extr's+exhst) I'd done All z other work b4 i put the new chip in and Wow=It hammered then. I fked a around wt a mates standard vn once and just threw a stage 3-custom memcal in it,all it did was chew heaps of petrol-still went bout the same and didnt even really hold the auto gears out longer either=do other work 1st b4 puttin a chip in cus it'll just cost ya juice...(the memcal chip is like the brain/map for computer+if u put a chip in that is telling ur injectors to spray longer and changes ur timing n all that= It dont work)... |
