Hi everyone,

This is my first post here so be gentle with me. I've done a quick search but I can't find what I'm looking for.

I have a series 2 V6 in my 1984 Hilux, it's been in there for 10 trouble free years until now. . . . . . It won't start

It cranks like crazy when I turn the key and I have spark but I have no power to the injectors and no power to the fuel pumps. I can power up the fuel pumps by bypassing the relay but still no injector pulse. The engine starts if i squirt some fuel in the throttle body. I've tried a spare ECU with the same results.

I'm sure it's something simple but it's doin' my head in!!!!!

Any ideas?????

cheers,
Glenn

Glenn,

Are you able to get the fault codes out of the ECU? you should get a code 12 at the very least. If no look for a blown fuse.

I'm assuming the wiring for the v6 is mostly complete.

The fuel injectors are controlled by the ECU by switching an "Earth" to complete the electrical circuit. Since this is a transplant I would look for the ECUs two earths connections usually on the motor. one earth connection is on the left hand bank, the other earth connects to the alternator bracket.

When your Ignition switch in "ON" it puts a +12V onto pin "A6", this is the ECUs run signal, The ignition switch also energises the EFI relay so you should see a +12V on the red wire for the injectors. So check for a +12V on pin A6 with the ignition "ON"

Hopefully it will soon run.

Good luck, and welcome to the club!

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

Righto, so after hours and hours and hours of tracing wires and swapping sensors and ECU's it turned out to be one of the plugs joining the standard VN V6 loom the the Hilux Loom. I unwrapped the plugs 2 very comprehensive layers of insulation tape, then removed the 2 zip-ty's holding the plug together, unplugged it put it back together and it started !! I'm not sure if I'm stoked that it was so simple or pissed that I didn't check the plugs earlier. Anywhoo, in celebration I did a dirty great burnout with my 33 x 12.5 muddies up the street on the rev limiter in second and all was forgiven.I love this engine! haha

Wish I had of got pics now! A young fella from up the road noticed (it was a bit hard to miss) that the Lux was goin after being parked beside the shed for months and came knocking on my door . . . . with a big wad of cash in his hand. He said he'd been lookin at it for 12 months. Well, we agreed on a price and it's his Hilux now.
