Hello!

I've started my build recently, my goal is a VN Aero mock with a few custom body bits here and there sitting well on Simmons with a tincy bit of camber all round :P. Want it all white exterior, Simmons also white.

Regarding the interior, im keeping the factory dash and plastics, just gonna smooth it all around and try.. paint it black?

So what I am interested in is..

1. Regarding the painting of the plastics... how long would interior paint last (considering it gets quite hot in AUS, but the car will most likely get tint later). Are there better options? What about vinyl wrapping?

2. I am wanting to upgrade my pods, not wanting something in particular fancy, but needs one which has space for a speaker and maybe the option to go electric window later on (button spaces?), which models have good door pods which would bolt on without too much adjustment. I am wanting to upgrade the door pods on all four doors.

3. SEATS! I will most likely get some ADR approved sport seats for the front, but I want the back to have a more slouchy feel, so I am thinking are there any rear seats which would go in easier than other, at the same time I want them to be presentable and have good form, because they are most likely going to get restitched in leather.

4. The door panel and door locks! Ive actually had someone break into this project car while I was at TAFE. they didn't get much, i guess just experience in getting in :(. But they stuffed my front passenger lock trying to get in with a screw driver and when that didn't work, they went in through the side of the lock - pushing it out a bit and creating space, ultimately ruining the panel to get to the door lock to open the door. Who would I go to about fixing that? Does that mean i have to replace all locks inc. ignition?! What are precautions i can use against thieves in my car? are there heavy duty locks i can install lol? i do not have a problem with having a manual locking system, but can upgrade if it will better the security of the car.

Thank you for reading my post, please share any info you guys have. I f you could number your answer relevantly to the question referring to, it would be great.

Cheers,

Mish.

An idea I had, was to use the "door pockets" from a VS as a more tasteful way of putting speakers in the doors. I know they are held to the door trims with self-tapping screws, and should be very little trouble to fit to a stock VN door trim. As for your door and ignition locks, you can buy replacement handles and/or lock cylinders, and have them "coded" to your ignition key. In other words, your existing ignition key will open the doors, the boot and start the car, without the need for your keyring to look like you work in a jail. Any good locksmith can do this, although the price can vary between locksmiths.

They tell me removing and installing VN-VS door handles are a bitch of a job. In theory, you could put some bracing around where the handle fits trough the door handle to make it more theft-proof. I know it's illegal, but rigging the security system to a high output ingition coil, with two brass plates under the door as the "switch" would definitely dissuade anyone from wanting to break into it, let alone steal it lol.

It is possible to get specialist vinyl paint to colour yout interior panels and dash most colours of the rainbow. This covers both fabric and vinyl, but works best in vinyl. VHT make a good version of it, and remember seeing the results in my then boss' immaculate FC Holden ute. They looked like new, and the spray colour didn't look like it was going to fade any time soon.
