A recent problem my VN has developed, is that when dead cold, it will start normally. However, if it gets up to operating temp, then you stop somewhere, it will refuse to start unless the engine has cooled off somewhat. I'm unusre as to whether it's just heat from the engine block, but the alloy case of its Series 1 coil pack does seem a bit warm. Any suggestions?

| Have found my culprit. Apparently the crank angle sensor was the same one it was born with. Not bad, pulling 220,000km from one of those units |

| Yeah,that's typical CAS behaivour when there on the way out,i've read on other Forums where apparently just a clean of all the gunk gets them going again normally. |

| Whenever I have my mechanic replace something on my VN, I always ask him to put the old parts aside, so I can examine them for myself. I explained early that it's not that I don't trust him, it's just so I can better understand how and why, and do better preventative maintenance. Having seen this CAS, it's amazing that I managed to get 220,000km out of it, and only the last 300km have been any trouble |

| Have a new one attached to the old problem. The electronic ignition module that the CAS plugs into is also on the way out. Another one to replace, but finally some progress on the temperamental little bugger |

The ignition module you are referring to is that the module the coil pack sits on?? If so it is called a DFI (Direct Fire Ignition) module.
I you are still running the series one pack a good little upgrade if replacing is to go for a series 2 DFI with the separate coil packs.
They are a more efficient setup than the series 1. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

Should be able to pick up a good second hand series 2 for around the same price as the series 1.
Should be plug and play as long as you get the brackets with it. |

| I'm erring on the side of caution. My mechanic seems to think he can get something new to replace the old one. Has now pushed me beyond my limits of tolerance now, as it will randomly refuse to start until I wait for about half an hour |
