ok its got a phillips 50 watt amp standard bolted to the boot above the wheel arch. now my question is, if the amp was screwed would this be giving me a bubbling sound whilst listening to the radio? if im listening to a brisbane station from the coast it is fine but when i put a strong signal station on it tends to make this bubbling sound which gets louder as the bass kicks in. im using alpine type r 6x9's with the standard tape deck.
i doubt it would be the amp or the speakers, or you would hear the sound when you're listening to a tape and/or cd's etc. the fact that its only on certain stations makes me think your Ariel might be stuffed....or something in the original tape deck. try bypassing the speakers/the amp and see if it still does it, if so its ur head unit

So it only does it on the radio? Sorry- I thought you said it was doing it all the time (I need to stop posting at work).
Interestingly, I read in the Vq brochure about the stereo install on factory Vqs and nothing was mentioned about an amp... I would have thought they'd mention it as a selling point.
they are very discreet and you would only find it if you pulled all the fancy trim out of the bnoot! all speakers and wiring are new so i think it would be the aerial or amp! who knows. and also, it only does it on the radio because there isnt much bass on the old tape i use
