Hello all, Our V6 auto VP has a dud starter motor. It won't take a Bosch starter motor as the hole in the inspection housing is not big enough for the nose of the starter. The inspection cover is a solid cast iron unit so it's not just a case of "out with the tin snips".
I have tried two different Bosch starters one was large and direct drive the other was smaller and has a reduction gear.
The one on the car is a Delco Remy.
Has anyone replaced one of these Delco starters? if so what did you replace it with?
you need to make sure the starter motor is out of a series 2 vn onwwards which bosch and delco make replacment items for. did you buy it new or from a wrecker?
I tried buying a new one about a year ago. I was told that I had a manual starter motor on an auto & it was going to cost a packet ($800 ish). Go figure.
I guess I'll try again at a spare parts place.
The big Bosch that I have is off my VN1 engine and the smaller Bosch I got at Ballarat swap meet last weekend.
The Delco has no "nose" like the Bosch items that I have seen & looks exactly like every one that is on eBay at the moment advertised as a "manual" starter motor.
the very early s1 motors with the auto came out with the cast iron g/b cover.. bit silly realy when they made a tinny ! I got a real small boshe thats of my s1 and it fits a gem! you would almost think its a gemini or torry starter! you can getem! basicaly rather than buy another starter by another cover plate then have a crak at it !
