I have a VN V6 auto and when driving it in any of the drives its very rough changing from 1st to 2nd gear. when its about to change into 2nd it sounds as if the revs are really high up (cant say exactly what they are as my tacho isnt working) and when it does actually ingauge into 2nd it feels as if the car has been pushed forward. any ideas on what could be causing this? i also have a stage 2 shift kit fitted. been to the mechanics and they've checked the gear box and they say its fine?

I'd gladly push my holden than drive a bloody ford!

The stage 2 shift kit will cause it to shift fairly rough but as for the revving before changing i am not sure. It could range from either the bands to the accumulator or servo's. First thing i would be checking is oil level. To check this go for a drive and get the gearbox oil warm and then with the engine idling and the tranny in neutral now check that the oil is in the operating zone on the dipstick. Providing the oil is clean, does not smell burnt and is at the right level the best thing to do would be to get the tranny overhauled. You could do it yourself if you are mechanically minded or pay someone to do it for you oooorrrrrrr you could buy a reco'd box.
If you want to try and trouble shoot it yourself let me know and i can take you through a couple of proceedures.
Let us know how you go

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

i could prolly do it myself i did my cert II auto last year and had to do a whole heap of bulls**t on gear boxes. last time i drove it i checked the oil and it was all good. cant test it at the moment. radiator is up the **** and have no battery thanks to my dickhead boyfriend jump starting my car with the jumper leads on the wrong way!!!! its real bad when the car is cold but when its warm it doesnt do it as much but still its worse that what it was when i first bought the car 3 years ago

if its slipping between changes you dont have much flooring left in it, time for a rebuild as the clutches are wearing out.

Cheers,
Nodg.

Sorry to say nodg but worn out clutch packs are not the only reason for slipping whilst shifting. There are many more reasons. The best thing to do is eliminate all possibilities before going the way of a rebuild.

in this case vnsvle, I agree with nodg the probmlem has been there from the start, either a good full service/ or a rebuild.. mind you a conditioned box would be cheaper than the rebuild

from what hsvbabe has described, if the fluid level is correct the clutch packs or band lining are more than likely the cause of problem

Cheers,
Nodg.

Rebuild not that expensive if you do it yourself. Can get rebuild kits for around $100

I would not touch the rack with a 10 foot barge pole. We have done one it took approx 2 days straight. There are so many little things that can go wrong and will go wrong if not careful. As for tranny i found a complete run down of rebuilding a th700 on ebay for about $40 I think. I have the Toyota lexcen genuine workshop repair manual for the trannies which covers pretty much everything you need to know.
