I was thinking of polling this but i figured a general discussion would proabably be more useful. I was just wondering what grade everyone else uses! im using BP Ultimate, ive got a 98Gold powerchip which means i pretty much need to use 98 or 95 octane petrol, ultimate and shell optimax are the only 98 octane petrols i know about. but thats kinda pricey at the moment ey! nehu... what kinda fuel does everyone else use? how do ya find it? (performance and general engine cleanliness wise) is BP any better than shell? and so on and so forth...

| All the sites I have seen said that the 91 octane is all that is needed to run the VN mill. I would use the 98 out of preferance. but I honestly cant tell the difference performance wise with the VN I could with my last car which was carburatted. It did start a lot eaier on the higer octane from memory I preffered the shell optimax over the bp ultimate. but that is only a personal preferance I am of the opinion that the optimax ran better then the ultimate.but that is my opinion. it could have been my imagination, and any number of variables at the time. Street machine magazine did actually do a write up on a controlled test on a few fuels. I can not remeber any of the details I just know it is in my cupboard some where. (sorry to ramble) |

Hey guys... I found that when i used BP i got **** consumption NO MATTER WHAT GRADE...
Caltex VORTEX is the best of the 98 Octanes in my opinion... however... lately i have been using UNLEADED PLUS from United Fuel stations... its 10% ethanol... and on average (Highway and City driving) im getting 500-520 Km's out of a tank... and its about 5 cpl cheaper than their standard unleaded!
Keep a look out for it... i recommend it... GREAT CONSUMPTION and GREAT POWER TOO! |

G'day, new here, I've got a '88 VN V6 stock auto, goes unusually well. I found that BP normal unleaded is crap, idle goes a bit off and car just doesn't seem 100% I avoid it if all possible. Mates of mine found that BP ultimate is the best premium. 91 vs 98, no difference in power or economy. |

| yeah i used to run mine on just normal unleaded but then i ran a tank of 98 through it and im never going back! the difference was unreal, but ultimate is so expensive, and i agree with grandtheftholden, the whole "extra 50 k's after continued consumption" is a load of bollocks! shell is alot cheaper in my area, i might give that a shot, apparantly shell fuel is not recommended for cars with carburettors, clogs them up or something... *shrugs* not that that really concerns those of us with injectors but still... |

| I had actally forgotten about that 10% ethanol blend. I have used that at one stage and they charge less for it then the unblended unleaded. the car did actually run better |

| Knightrook - I find Shell give my O2 sensor dramas and it gives an error code. I'm assuming it's an additive they use but let me know how you go. |

I just came from Shell. fly buys 8 cent discount fuel docket and a further 2 cents discount for spending $2 in store ( I got an extra 2 cents of giving me 10 cents perlitre) got 5 freddo frogs and $50 of fuel for $48. good on me I know Im not the winner here I thought about it the discount is at the register not at the pump if the discount was at the pump then you actually would get more petrol for your money. its one of those things you need to work out before you fill if you would like the saving to go into your tank. other wise its just a little more for the petrol station to sell. Im going to stop there before I start talking in circles Im not trying to spam here nor am I encourageing any one to buy this clowns E-book. Just a concept I would like to discuss considering fuel economy came up.

My father emailed me the link and the nexplaind that its nothing that he would do to his car and probably not something that I should do to mine. If I had a car I could play around with then It would be ideal. THe concept seems fairly simple and whether the claim is true about doubling milleage I would love to find out. I would love toplay with this jsut unsure about pouring addetives into my fuel tank like paitn thinners.

I used to use Shell... a long time ago now, but i found i would have more power (or it felt like it), but poorer consumption, not REALLY bad or anything just very average...
And as a testament to how CRAP mine used to run on BP... I once filled up in BP in Bendigo (Middle of VIC for those who dont know) and drove to Melbourne and around a BIT (230Km's in total)... and had to fill up! |
