I dont know how many people know this but i found it interesting and thought id post it up...
say if a guy pulls out on you and you and he colide, and it is obvious it is 100% his fault, to an insurance company this is not the case. No matter how obvious the fault of the accident is, even if the other person was completely in the wrong, it is still 25% your fault. The only exception to this is if someone runs up your rear end. So he pulls out on you leaving you with no where to go, you colide, and the insurance company accepts the claim... you are still viable for 25% of the costs.
Dont know about all you out there but i think that is total bull sh*t!!! I had no idea and to be honest im glad the guy whos fault my accident was insurance company didnt accept the claim!

Incorrect.
I was deemed not at fault by the police who attended the accident and my insurance company and had my car repaired with no excess ($7k damage!!).
Essentially I was pulled out in front of just like you and the impact was on her passenger side corner and my driver's side corner / front end.
Who is your insurer and what coverage do you have (full comp, third party)? |

| Yeah- I've heard the old 'you're at fault just for being on the road' tale before. And I used to believe it until I had to make a claim and it was $0 excess. |

I think a lot depends on the person who hits you as well.
A coke Truck reversed into my Brothers ute and instead of driving off he waited with it until my brother returned to it. It did a lot of damage and has only just got it back after a month or so in the smash repairers. It cost him a bit to fix it because instead of replacing what he had (bonnet etc) he added a different bonnet and stuff. It looks awesome now and its something he wouldn't have done otherwise.
Anyway I got way off track..lol If a lot of people knew about only having to pay 75% I know a lot wouldn't budge and only pay what they had to, If It was me I would pay the 100% anyway because i'd feel bad and want someone to do it if it was my car that was hit.
Then there are people who scam insurance companies which makes it all harder again...

the insurance is the scam lol, you pay out for somthing that might not ever happen , and when it does you need a lawyers degree and a big stik to make them c your way, I meen its just bullsh1t, but like you sed joogie we need these blood suckers, but just think I bet when the shoe is on the other foot they (the assesor) would have no problem getting his/her claim no drama's... Its not like back in the 80's even the early 90's were you paid your insurance, if you had to make a claim and it was sorted , now days its a case of your wrong and I'm right! GREEDY SONS OF BITCHES

Im doing the same thing kind of sharoo.. i got all quotes for replacing vs clubby kit ut vy isnt much more so im gettin that instead. in a way im glad i was hit coz i get to redo my car. downside is it lost me my job and more.
But yes trizo, they are! i mean insurance is one thing u really have to read all the small writing with. Iv made sure im covered for any car i drive so wat happend to the poor bastard who hit me doesnt happen to me. U gotta wonder about the people working there.. i mean they gotta do thier job, but do they have a consience or a sense of wrong and right!? Im sure everyone of them would no a way around all the little fine prints that seem to cost most people getting thier claims approved. |

It could do. Her insurance company did try and deny she was at fault but the police report quickly sorted that out.
I know what you mean about the cost of insurance but as far as I'm concerned its as vital as rego. It only has to sort it out once for it to be worth it's weight in gold.
You said your's cost you your job, a decent insurance company could have organised a courtesy car. I'm not sinking the boot into you over it, but it's definately worth keeping your insurance paid up.
I'm only 25 and had my car a lot of years... I'd hate to think what I've paid in insurance!! |

Its always been the problem of i cant afford it tho.. thats the problem. 3rd party is easy. But 2000 a year for insurance is pretty steep... But hey iv paid the price for having none now, but i no as soon as i get a decent car ill have it no questions asked. Insurance is a bitch but its needed unfortunatly |

| lmao sharoo,,,,, but I agree with mild there if your paid up with the right mob you get your rewards ...... mind u shannons has become realy fussy over insuring vns for the fact that alot of p-plates drive them- smash them then claim for a better car! To b honest I think shannons are the most stringent out there but if you can get it on with them theres no going back! |

Yeah- they are extremely selective when it comes to who they insure. It's not a bad idea to give them a crack though because they are the best insurance company I've ever used. The service I recieved was amazing- phone calls to make sure I was happy with everything, calls to let me know how it was going, really friendly to speak with on the phone. It might have all been an act, but they actually came across like they gave a crap. Plus every time you call them you just end up having a big conversation about the car ;)
When I applied for the policy it was like 20 questions though. And they don't usually touch under 25s unless you have an impeccable driving history apparently (I got mine insured through them at 24). Unfortunately, I'm still paying the under 25 rate because it's a twelve month policy but it works out to about $1100 a year for $10k agreed value all mods listed. |
