I have a VN HSV LE V8 which recently on a 200k country trip cutout 7 tmes. It was a fairly hot day but the water temperature remained near the first graduation. The car would not restart initially but started again after about 10 minutes each time. Distances between breakdowns varied from 2k to 30k although it ran without a problem for the last 100k in hotter conditions? A check of the computer did not identify any faults (a GMH dealer has advised that it most probably is the CAS in the dizzy even without a fault code?). I have cleaned the connections on the dizzy, ignition module, ECM & fuel pumps.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Had a talk to an EFI specialist in Sydney. He advised that the Bosch ignition modules in the VN V8s were suspect? Now carrying a 2nd hand spare in the boot just in case. Any one heard of similar info? |

Yep the igniter sounds like the culprit but could also be the cas like trizo said, which is called a hall effect sensor ad is located inside the distributor, after years of aging they can deteriorates easily with a puff of wind : )
Try wiggling the connections leading to the ignition module could be as simple as a dodgy connection, does it show any fault codes at all?? (orange en gine light) |

That's the prob. No error codes on computer. Now carrying spare dizzy (cas) & bosch ignition module. Cleaned all electrical connections & at this stage problem has not returned for last 2 weeks (although weather has been cooler). |

if theres an electrical fault caused by heat it will still arise in cooler conditions it just may take longer for it to pop up.
So you think it may have fixed the prob entirely? is the car nehaving any differantly to before? (power wise etc) |

Nope. Dont thnk prob fixed, probably happen at worst time, then I'll change the ignition module first then dizzy if prob persists.
At present car going good, rebuilt motor 2005, upgraded cam, reconfigured chip (dyno'd 161kW at rear wheels, approx 185kW to 216kW). Tough old SV LE Build 020 although T5 getting a bit tired. |

by this post i was guessing you replaced that stuff?? so all you did was clean the connections?? personally i have fixed minor problems by simply doing a general clean out of the connections so i wouldnt doubt it fully, but your right the problem may (or may not) come back at the wrst possible time.
If it happens again post back |
