hey i just got the commodore V6 executive standard brakes and calipers etc.

Of course as you may know from yours you wont have ABS which doesn't bother me to much i just don't tailgate people.

i was thinking of upgrading to brakes to bigger diameter and the calipers to suit i suppose you buy those as a package.

when i jam my foot on the pedal to the max maybe i have hard pads or something but the wheels don't even lock up, which is good but it doesn't berry the nose like it should even without the ABS.

I was thinking i could get a set from Repco or Autobarn but paying retail is probably adding several hundreds extra onto what i could potentially pay.

i could get a complete set of a V8 at a wrecking yard but they could be damaged.

I don't know where is best to get them from yet but i only had one i needed to make sure was that if the brakes a bigger and better would this make it more prone to locking up the wheels.

if anybody has upgraded theres or got a V8 having the better brakes what's it like to stomp on the pedal, like emergency braking.

thanks guys

I'll show you the Rick James cell. It's superfreaky!.

Yep the v6 brakes are quite dangerous in a serious situation even when the system is bled, if you change the original calipers and discs to the v8 package or the after market vt twin spot kit (1000-1500) then you will also need the master cylinder & brake booster to go with it otherwise there wont be any differance in brake performance, well noticebly anyway.

Cheers,
Nodg.

Yeah i herd of alot of people putting VT SS brakes on there VB-VS commodores are they the best to put on these cars. do you happen to know how much these are worth and are they just straight bolt on with no mucking about. i can do them at my next service instead of just changing brake pads while it's on the hoist at my dads garage.

it's just stepping hard on my brakes scares me because I'm just thinking one day i wont pull up when some idiot cuts me off or something.

a bt1 is basically a stock commodore with sports suspension, a different speedo and an engine sump guard.

when i had me VN the brakes were ****.....then one day it really didnt want to stop when i was approaching a round about. So i swapped the booster and master cyilender with the ones on a VN wreck i have that looked pretty new, as me old ones were leaking etc...mad a fair bit of difference but not allot. I put bendex ultimate pads on and it actually stoped the car.....but **** me there were dusty (still have the pads haha).

on me current car (VS commy) the brakes are a hell lot better but were better with those ultimate pads but as i said they just kept coating the wheels in dust after a min drive. currently i have bendex CT pads on there with slotted rotors, they dont coat the wheels in brake dust.

so make sure you have bleed the system and have good quality pads.

on another note has anyone used the QFM brand pads? just the normal ones as there supposed to be better then bendex and even stopp 100% better..only cause im thinking of buying them but want to have feedback first from people that have used them
cheers

Thanks nodg for the info on the new VT SS brakes $1500 is pretty reasonable for these better brakes.

i have just one more question to anyone concerned and that's the fact that the VT SS I'm sure came out with 18" rims and the Police change them down to 17" to save money as they chew through tires.

with the larger rotors will i still be able to get the 15" interceptor wheels back on if i need to eg. get a flat tyre.

and jas the reason you would of gotten so much brake dust is when discs become scorched they tend to chew through pads more, the new ones with a smooth surface would reduce it, but youll still get some to an extent..

i just brought some QFM pads from local dealer here for 35 bucks...pretty cheap so lets see how they go lol

Hey does anyone know how much brake pads for my standard discs on my V6 VN brakes would cost and i need the most soft compound possible i don't care how often i have to replace them.

does anyone know like a part number or brand to recommend.

Why soft?? I personally would go for Bendix Ultimate pads. Not the cheapest but work well.

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

Well the thing is that the softer the pads the more braking power and contact the pads and discs have to each other.

At the moment i have really hard ones and the cars only just pulls up to a stop from the speed limit which is what scares me.

When I'm at my dads workshop next I'll true the discs and fit soft pads to get maximum sharpness in braking.

this is just while i save up $1500 for VT SS brakes that nodg recommended.

Have a look at getting some stainless braided brake lines to. They will make alot of difference in braking efficiency.

i got them for $35. only front ones but that was from local auto place that supplies them. there good for the money. Didn't think they would be but have herd heaps about them on another forum (u know the one:P) there only the base level ones not the HPX (think thats what they are) ones

they feel like there a softer pad, there supposed to be less harsh on the rotors as well and no dust but i do have dust on me wheels, could just be because of the roadworks i have been driveing through the last 2 days though

bendex are good, don't get me wrong about that. Ferado have way too much dust but do work well,

yeah jas ive bedded them in about 5 times now and still squeels, also something ive noticed over the past year manufacurers of dbrake pads have been putting less meat on your pads so you have to change them twice as often which is a rip off....
