Hey Hey.....
Hope someone can help me here.....
When out for a drive, could be short or long..... When I get home and stop my car, after about a minute I can her the surge tank bubbling... starts off a little and then fully goes sick!! Bubbles so much its like it pushes all the coolant out of the engine, out thru the surge tank cap?? All the water is forced out by this bubbling effect....
I squeezed the radiator hoses and they are not tight..... The next morning I went out and checked... No coolant in the radiator.... Little amount left in the surge tank.... I filled up the radiator and everything was green and full...... I turned the car on to allow it to flow thru... it then looked full... turned off the car filled up the surge tank and ran the car (radiator cap still on, sometimes any air will come out of system this way) HOWEVER the water stayed clear and no green goodness came thru......
I turned off the car and checked the radiator.... Green goodness is there... turned the car on and the water circulated like the water pump still works.... but still no green goodness in the surge...
This would suggest to me a Blockage or the Water Pump is not working to full capacity??
Can someone help me please..... anyone with a similar problem and knew what exactly it was???

sounds like it could be the water pump fins if you cant see circulation through the radiator fill point, the only way to check it is to remove it and you will loose all your coolant, best bet is to do a full flush of the system, new thermostat, then take the water pump off and inspect the fins, if the fins are rootd then youve found your problem if not then id be looking at an air leak in the system if the coolant hoses arent going stiff once the motors warmed up. Its best to either buy your own pressure test kit or get a mechanic to test it for you to ensure theres no air leaks, particulary ones that are caused by head gaskets and valley gaskets! not meaning to scare you but its a possibility al;thoguh it could be a minor problem only way is to check it out the hard way... |

Sweet... thanks for the help.... I did the flush and refill of coolant first..... I started the car and the coolant circulates fine, but is it normal after ten minutes of running the car that I can see bubbles still coming thru the system when I am looking at the coolant thru the radiator cap (when its off)?? If it isnt normal, than does it mean there is air getting in the lines somewhere??? I cant see any drips or anything....... she hasnt done the bubbling in the water surge tank since I have done it though.....
Its puzzling me..... |

yep air is coming into the system from somewhere and i would start with a pressure test of the system first as it could be as simple as a loose hose but could be as serious as a headgasket or valley gasket. |

you know i had a problem recently with mine. it was pushing the water out of the tap like it was every time i started it up and i put on a new properly sealed cap and now the expansion tank holds the water fine and it's never been a problem since.
i don't know if your problem is more serious than this. |
I'll show you the Rick James cell. It's superfreaky!. |

Thanks heaps for the info guys...... I will check all hoses again and replace the cap..... I think it might be that back heater hose which is on the throttle body..... I had to change it not long ago and noticed that it was slightly corroded... I might see if I can get a whole new piece too... I think air might be coming in there.... DAMN IT...
Lets push it down and hill and set it on fire lol |

I find that the VN's run quite hot anyway, when stopped at lights the gauge will go up but when air flow and driving forwards, the gauge will go down again..... Some other older cars I have come across such as Chargers and Valiants do the same.... just as long as it doesnt go into overheat!!! |
