Hi all, got a bit of an issue with the VN, i'll try and give as much info as i can so excuse the length of the first post...... :) breif history of car... 89 series 1 V6, purchased of a mate for 50 bucks, was his mother inlaws, $600 seen it roadworthy and in my name...(Sweet!! work bomb, get the missus off my back for takin her HR ute... lol..) Car's been good, few weeks ago gave me trouble, found this forum, got codes, $20 coolant sensor and i survived Xmas.... (cheers for makin' site easy guys..) NOW... It spat the dummy today, runnin' like a dog. got the codes (13 & 44), new O2 sensor, code clear, stayin' clear, runnin' like a dog.. pulled leads off coil pack while running (taking care not to give myslf a boot in the process) would apear nothings coming out of the centre pack..... new coil pack... (Starting to get S#@ty..) still nothing out of the centre coil.. my question.. the thing that the coil is mounted on.. what the blimmin' hell is it??? i'm guessin between it and the crank angle sensor they do what the dizzy did in world that i came from :P if anyone can shed some light on what to do next, given it's post Xmas, i just threw 130 bucks at it and got nowhere....Grrrr.... cheers to all.... :)

Hey Sneeches.... Do yourself a favour and grab a S2 coil pack from the wreckers (or brand new whichever) The S1 coil pack is one block(silver bottom and black top) and when one point goes the whole thing is useless to you.... where as the S2 coil pack there are 3 units and can be replaced easily.... Try new leads, sparkies and the S2 coil pack... You can get them from the wreckers for like $50 or cheaper.... easy to install... Also check your air filter and throttle body (give that a good clean with some carby cleaner)
Let us know what happens...... |

The DFI module also known as the ignition control module. I would remove the coil pack and check that the wiring is still good and check the earth lead to the module. Does the center of the coil pack feel as though it is getting hotter than the others?? If all looks good track down a DFI module from the wreckers as they usually do not fail and install it. This should be reasonably cheap. Alternatively get yourself a multimeter and manual and fault find it yourself this way you can be sure what exactly is faulty. Either way buddy good luck and let us know how you go!! If you need a hand with anything at all dont be afraid to ask. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

lol nothing beats old school simplicity. Now maybe a silly question have you checked the leads?? Are there any codes present now with the car running like a dog?? Have you reset the ecm?? |

hi guys.. sorry been off line for a bit... to fill in the goss since... was dfi module, got one from a wreakers, still cr@p, noticed that the top coil was the one not firing now, went back and got a different one, all good...... got about 200k's out of it, died at the supermarket.... grrrr.... felt like burning it at that point. lol. anyway couldn't get it going, ended up towing it, when i got it home bloody thing decided it would start, but still not happy at all, top coil not firing... had to move house so that's as far as i've got with it, limped to the new house, will probably try and have a fiddle with it this week.. am thinking maybe dfi module is dicky again, but if they are not a common failure could be wiring to module, recuring fault but not consistent symptoms, i dunno......
oh and no codes and a reset did nothing...
cheers :P |

lol.... had to start the vn yesterday so i could shuffle my ht's around, think i might have come across a phenonomen (so can't spell that word :P) i have heard of but never experienced "compression lock".... wouldn't turn over, thought it was just low batt, but after a decent charge still wouldn't crank, got my big shifter and tried to turn the crank manually, bloody hell it was stiff!!! as i did i could hear hissing sounds coming from the motor, got it through compression stroke then proceeded to wind it over by hand for 10 or so revolutions, noting that it seemed like 2 pots were locking up but were getting easier every revolution... turned the key and away she went again (still running on 4 cylinders but at least i could move it out of the way).. anyone ever come across this and can explain what is actually happening to cause it? i had always thought it was an old wives tale... :) |

Pull the plugs and make sure that there is no water in the pots or rust for that matter. |
