hey guys, long time no post!! so, i went to start the vn today and the ignition wouldnt turn. absolutely wouldnt budge. usually the little gaurd thing pops out after you put the key in, but the time it was all just frozen up, im thinking that maybe i should just use some graphite powder or other form of lubrication to free it up but im not too confident about pouring something into my ignition... the only thing that i can think that maybe has happened is that maybe the heat has expanded the mechanism inside the lock and now its frozen up until it cools down (46.4 degrees in melbourne today, hottest day on record!) anyway, any help would be appreciated. cheers!!
Theres a fine line between not knowing and not caring... i like to think i walk that line everyday of my life
had the same thing happen to someone out at work in a vr/vs. all we did was put a bit of graphite powder straight in the hole and worked the key while wriggling the steering wheel a bit and it freed up alright. as trizo said if you can pull the barrel off it will be better and easier to free up. if you do get it off give it a good clean out with some CO contact cleaner if you can get some ( CO is the flammable version which is better for plastics) and then give it a good dose of graphite powder and all should be good. I would not recommend crc as dirt will more than likely build up over time and will give you more trouble.
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.
this sounds like a common problem with commodore ignitions! I had the same thing happen to my partners vx. I was stuck in the middle of town with my son it just wouldn't budge! The steering wheel locked and everything! I thought it was the key so i got my mother in law to bring me the spare key and just as she got there say half an hour later the ignition unlocked and i was able to start the car. It did it again a few more times then stopped doing it completely and haven't had a problem since so maybe sit there for a while trying to get it to unlock?
I'd gladly push my holden than drive a bloody ford!
