Hey guys,
Just wondering, how low is illegal, i have heard loads of scenarios and sort of want the real answer,
i heard that the lowest point of the car cant be closer then 100mm to the ground but what about havin people in the car etc,
ive seen police measure to the guard and measure to the lights.
I have a set of lows and they are too high for my liking and superlows are too high aswell. i know its illegal and all that and may seem super stupid to some but removing like 1 coil from the lows?
they are progressive rate but that is only the top, the bottom of the spring is normal.
i know that due to being progressive they will be mega stiff but dont really care.
any help guys would be much appreciated
BTW i am running Monroe GT shortened shocks. and i am only enquiring about the rear, the front is low enough lolz
dave

100mm at the lowest point and i believe that is loaded or unloaded.
I would not recommend cutting the springs, one because it is not legal and two the heat produced by the cutting will change the characteristics of the spring at the cut.

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

Yeah VNSVLE is right even if your car sits 1m off the ground after chopping a coil out you have still broken the law hat says no heating the springs to cut them etc.

never ever cut your springs trust me take it from my experience!!!! i had cuts in my car and went over a bump one spring fell out popped a tyre and sent me into a gutter, not fun! it all depends on which state you are from. im from victoria and the law here is the car cannot be lower than 100mm at the lowest point and that is tested with a full tank of petrol and all seats occupied.

I'd gladly push my holden than drive a bloody ford!

Yeah i had cut springs in the back of mine too i was such a terrible ride in that back and very dangerous like you said i didn't even have to take off the shock to take out the springs so image hoe easy it could fall out as hsv_babe found out.

The IRS such as the VS sit lower with the same considered height springs as the VN's they have much more camber. Only downer is they wear tyres faster.

Im pretty sure the irs springs are ALOT lower, he has just lows and it sits on its arse.
he has custom cups made for the spring to sit on the live axle and custom shortened shocks, and of course zip ties to hold the springs in no matter wat.lol
just by look they are alot lower.
does anyone know if any brand make super super lows?

If you read the specifications on those springs they are correct if you have those names in the front and the rear but when you put say super lows in the front and back the whole car sits down lower but even.

If you put shorter springs in the back and keep your fronts the car may sit another half inch lower or so than in together. This is something you have to be careful of in you wana keep it legal.

It's a fact that VN's naturally sit higher in the rear from stock anyway this is how people get into trouble too because they put superlow's in so it's legal and think HMMM it's not low enough in the rear adn then buy ultra low for the rear.

Just work all this out before you purchase.

If you want king springs they come in super low and ultra low. I have ultra low all around in my car and it sits at 107mm with a quarter of a tank and no one in the car im also running it on 16 inch rims
