Hey Guys, got problems with the cooling on the VN again! Just a general run down for those who dont no, 1990 Executive V6 Auto, running K&N Pod Filter
In The Past 12 Months Has Had Brand New Thermostat Brand New Water Pump Full Cleanout of Radiator By Professional
Ok My temperature gauge normally sits on 2 lines from cold, no matter what the weather is like and when driving in town, but lately it has been sitting on half way, and when in town nealy overheats. Took it to a radiator and cooling specialist a couple of weeks ago, they bleed the radiator and bypassed the fan (as they were not coming on this i almost cooked myself) so that they are constantly on, but it doesnt seem to be making much difference apart from making my car slower to warm up. Any ideas on what else could be wrong as im really stuck for ideas!
Also wanted to no, should i continue to run my K&N Pod, replace it with an original air box or put cold air induction thru?

I would not recommend cutting a hole in the bottom of your air box but higher intake temps due to the pod filter being open to the heat of the engine will be part of your problem. I would be looking at the thermostat as Benche mentioned because you can get brandnew duds. When they cleaned out the radiator did the flush the engine as well?? When did it start overheating?? Was it just after one of the processes mentioned above?? |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

| a word of warning with the fans running all the time,, not only does this cause power loss through the engine( the fan draws stupid amounts of power to run) it also rapidly heats up all the other wiring (this is a proven fact) sometimes to the point of a fire! As stupid this may sound have a look at the temp sensor! could very well be dicked! |

| yeah im thinking about replacing all the sensors and stuff, i need to go a check on my computer as well see what error codes its pumping out. im thinking i may need to take the thermo out and check it just to see what happens, when the radiator was done i took it out of the car and took it to them so no the engine wasnt flushed. if there is crap in there because of this how easy is it to fix? it started over heating before we replaced anything in it, i took it a mechanic to have my gearbox looked at and they had a look at the cooling as well, replaced the thermostat and said it should be right but the radiator coils were block 5 runs from the bottom |
