Hey guys. Finally got my VN back on the road after a few months of stiing idle in the driveway and all is good except the engine light has come on a couple of times. I just checked the codes and all i get is 44, and 45. at different times i'm presuming cos i didnt reset it after the first time. i read on the list that it is the O2 sensor, low and high. its only ever done it since i got gas put on. does this sound ok. the guy who put the gas on said its common thing with VN's and not to worry, but its annoying the hell outta me. could it mean its running too rich on the gas or something? also, i have removed and cleaned the sensor as best i could but it still comes on, not every time i drive but does do it a bit often.
thanks

I will admit I don't know the Buick V6 at an electronic level, but how does the wiring to the sensor and at the sensor itself look? Remember, that on gas all engines run a little hotter, so just check it for the elimination process |

Yeah, gave the connection a clean when i had the sensor off, its not melted or damaged at all and seats well. dont think its temperature related cos the temp of the car hasnt really changed since i had it. thought maybe too much gas not enough air in the mix and maybe some gas is getting through unburnt and messing with the readings or something. |

Oxy sensors are meant to be a "trim tuning" device; they lower emissions and improve fuel economy by telling the ECU whether what's coming out the exhaust was burnt properly. Ask the bloke who fitted the LPG setup if they are adjustable at all. There's a slight chance he might have put it up too rich and it's confusing the @#&* out of the ECU. Otherwise, you might have to dig deeper to find it. |

so the o2 sensor would lean out or richen the fuel at the injectors depending on what the exhaust is reading? because its now on gas and the injectors aren't doing anything and the ecu cant control the gas mixer, it wouldnt actually do any damage or change how it runs? i did play with the idle screw as it wouldnt idle in gear after getting back on the road after about 9 months sitting idle. so maybe ive gone too high. |

It will tune the fuel mixture to an extent but not enough if the tune is way out.... a proper custom memcal & tuning the gas converter will fix this problem, dont drive the car too hard until you have it all sorted out as this will cause engine damage after a while |
Cheers, Nodg. |
