What's the strangest thing you've seen done to a car? In my mind, two stick out a bit. If you guys are unfamiliar with a GM colour called Barbados Green, it's a very loud, almost fluoro lime green/yellow. Holden briefly had it in 1973/4, and never used it again. Although he did a great job on the bodywork, it doesn't seem to fit on a VL wagon. Another one I saw was a VK Commodore "Overlander," done exactly the same way it's done on any Kingswood wagon or ute, complete with chunky, fat mud tyres.
In the "too weird for words" category, a stretch 1976 Volkswagen Beetle. For "automotive vandalism" a stretch E-Type Jag. Regardless of what you think of Jags, this was a criminal act.

That really does top 'em for weird. What happens if you let the rat rod fans loose in a Holden wrecking yard! |

Then again, the craziest "sleeper" I've ever seen is a '76 Toyota Hiace van. The 1.8 litre 18R 4 cylinder didn't have enough kick for him. Instead he put in a Leyland P76 V8, bored and stroked to 4 litres. Twice the number of pistons, and more than twice the displacement, but until you hear it start, you'd never think it was anything other than some old codger's well kept van.
A Californian one I've seen; This bloke loves drag racing, and for some unknown reason, he has a thing for Morris Minors. He decides to combine the two. The front wheels are standard 5 inch wide 14" crossplies. The rears are 14x14" Mickey Thompsons, on Chrysler centered steel rims, to take the stock Morris hubcaps. Up the front is a blown, nitrous sucking Boss 427. Painted British Racing green, ignore the 6/71 blower, wheelie bars and 14" wide Mickey Ts on the back, and you'd think it was Grandma's car from the outside. It's custom California plate reads "MNR PROB" As in fitting that driveline was a minor prob lol |
