Step 1: Remove the shrouds from around the steering column, and undo the lock barrel assembly from the column. The actual switchgear on the back of the lock barrel is contolled by a small pin that goes through the lock shaft. Once you decide how to switch it, you'll know exactly what wire to use, and how to rig it up. Although with the ignition setup, you would need two switches. One is just to turn the ignition on, the other is the starter button to run the starter motor. I would ask someone who does car alarms for their opinion on that one |

You will have to remove the ignition assembly completely for this if you are not using a key at all or you wont be able to unlock the steering. Also as Mechknight mentioned an alarm and immobiliser is a must for this setup and I would also be putting in some hidden kill switches. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

The mechanism itself can be removed with an Allen key and a screwdriver. If you wanted to replace the lock itself, it's possible to "code" it to your existing key; The internals of a VN ignition lock consist of a barrel with about 12 cross-cut slots in it, matching springs for slots and a series of brass "sleeves" that go inside these slots. When a locksmith refers to a key "code" he means the "sequence" of the slots. They're numbered 0-9. 0 being the shortest sleeve length, 9 being the longest. The sequence of those sleeves lines up with the pattern on the key itself. When the key is inserted, the sleeves retract into the barrel, allowing it to turn. You can code the locks yourself, but a locksmith can usually do this fairly cheap. Best of all, it means you only need one key for the lot. You can still buy VN-spec ignition locks new from a dealer. |

If your tryin to avoid buyin a new ignition barrel just suck it up and get a new one, they're cheap and any locksmith can make it fit your key. If you want it for some other reason just pull the pins off the back for the starter, cant remember colours and wire up to switch |
Just be thankful you got two legs to stand on and hands to grab sh*t with! |

Replacing the ignition barrel requires the least amount of "butchery" to solve the problem you have. If the ignition barrel is solidly jammed, you might have to drill out the lock barrel. However, once the barrel is out, fitting the new one is very little drama. The VN-VS all use exactly the same barrel; the only difference is that the VR/VS have that transponder contact ring around the ignition barrel, a part that isn't actually attached to the lock cylinder itself |
