Any of you that use UHF two way radios would know that you normally can only mount the aerial if you a. have a bullbar, roobar or nudge bar b. can tolerate a bracket at the back of your car that resembles something off cop cars of the day or c. drill at least one hole in the front guard/rear guard/gutter, and live with the loss of paint from when the aerial sways and rubs against bodywork. I had a different idea, and have proven to myself that it works by installing it on my own car.

The skin on the VN front bumper is held on by 4x6mm bolts. This is a solid piece of steel, and a good ground plane. The two inner of these bolts (near the left and right headlights) are easy to get at if you remove the grille. Pick a side, and remove a bolt. Place the bracket in position (will send the plans if you email me) and replace that bolt with one at least 13mm longer than the old bolt. A standard metric unit, that can be found at any hardware store. With flat and spring washer in place, tighten it down. Then it's only a matter of threading the aerial through whichever orifice on the firewall is convenient to you. I personally threaded both power and aerial cables through a hole to the left of the brake booster.
