There's only two places I know of personally in Australia; Howards Instruments in Melbourne, and Aisat Instruments in Perth. Both can do anything from a minor tune, through to a complete overhaul.
Before things get too out of hand, did your previous temp gauge work ok? If it didn't, make sure your temp. sender is working properly. It's the one with a single wire connected to it, at the back of the manifold.Check for corrosion on the terminal, dunk it in some hot water, and measure the resistance with a multimeter. A room temberature reading, and one when it's in literally boiling water.
If this is ok, check the flexible "circuit board" on the back. Check for any cracks in the various printed copper circuits. I am unsure as to which method you use to repair them, but these things are the cause of about 80% of faults in a VN instrument cluster. |

ill get around to taking it out and taking alook around to see if anything seems perished. while im on this topic i was hoping for your opinion. My ac is on the fritz and im quite sure it works ok but a while ago when i started the car and was servicing the engine my brother mentioned something wrong with the air conditioning. the compressor kept locking in and out while it was both on, and off at the switch on the dash. I thought it might be the compressor but a few weeks ago while putting the new steering column in that the fuse box was seriously burn, literally melted, around the AC fuse. there was also no fuse in there anyway that i recall. so naturally i asume this to be the problem. Would it still function if i clean it up abit and make sure the probs aernt touching each other and put in a new fuse or just get a auto sparky to replace it with one from holden or the wreckers??? If i do do this, how much do you expect it to hurt my wallet? Cheers Adam |

I would ask an auto sparky's opinion; tell him to check and quote. Many auto sparkys charge about $80 an hour, but he might fix this problem in 10 minutes. It has to have something to do with the compressor switch somehow bypassing the regular circuits. That fuse box will unbolt from its mountings; if you're gentle, you should be able to flip it over enough to get a look underneath. It will at least give you a handle on what's buggered in the terminals |
