gday all. my vn has recently cause me all sorts of trouble.
first thing after i run my car 4 a while it begins to shudder on take off. it only seems to to it after it gets warm. i am lead to believe it is the transmission (i got a 5 speed manual). some people have also told me it could b the diff.
also i went to get a wheel alignment the other week n was told that somethin was bent cause it wouldnt align nemore. then i was quoted $650 to have some rubber pieces inserted somewere to fix the problem. would it be worth wile buying another vn and swapping the front end over.
and just quickly wat would be the cost of an engine rebuild geting it done professionally and doing it urself.
cheers all.

When you say 'swap the front end over', thats when things start to go wrong. I no VNs are very common and you can basically find parts for it in the gutter if you looked hard enough. Did you buy the car with a mechanic check before hand? Coz it might have been in a serious smash before you bought it. I went through the same thing and i was gonna buy one that had the whole front end out by about 6-7cm(not good). Its just gonna keep ending up costing you more and more money.
As for a rebuild, your goona have to ask around because there are a heap of different ones available from different places. Performance or starndard rebuild? It might be $$$$$$, but C.O.M.E. racing will do a mad ass 231ci V6 VN rebuild with i think 160-180rwkw for $7000. Thats basically the best of the best though. U will find cheaper though if you look(surely). Dont know how much it would be for a self rebuild(MOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!...HELP!!!). Go to comeracing.com. They got good stuff on there. Expensive, but good.
Hope that helps |

The self engine rebuild isnt hard to do...even a retard (no offence to retards) could do it. I know this, because im a complete idiot (and have proof) and ive re-built one. Seriously, i saw smoke, so instead of checking the rocker cover gaskets, i rebuilt the engine...
want proof of how stupid i am? Me and my best m8 just drank 8 V energy drinks and swallowed 4 200mg caffeine tablets in 5 min. That was at 12am, its now 722am and im still buzzing. Answer your question on the difficulty?
As for price, it cost me about $1000 for the kit...
sorry for the long post |

A shudder on take off? I'd be surprised if it was something inside the gearbox, it could be the clutch having a few problems. I had a bit of an issue with mine, turned out that the oil seal on the front of the gearbox had crapped itself, a new clutch and oil seal later and the problem was solved.
Cracked flywheel could do it. A diff might do it, but can't see why.
Check the condition of all the suspension rubbers too. Check the shocks as well.
If the front end is playing up, then I personally wouldn't bother with trying to chop and join the front end from another VN, I'd just go for a full suspension replacement with a good kit from a descent company.
If there's actually something that's bent, get it replaced. If metal has been bent, replace it, don't just get a piece of rubber to 'compensate' for it. |
