im thinking 4inch up front in the dash and 6inch up the back(not 6x9s)and a decent head unit

orrr.

6inch speakers in VR dor pods with 6x9s in the back and decent head unit

im thinking the first option as money isnt big at the moment.and i think i could get decent 4inch's and 6inches for about the same price as average 6inches and 6x9s.i listen to alot of metal and some rap stuff.what do you think my best option is.
and also do 6inch speakers mount in the parcel shelf without having to get raisers?like you do with most 6x9s?.

Yes the 6's should fit in the parcel shelf with no worries. Have read of this http://www.vncommodore.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=665. Both choices are good it just depends weather or not you want to put a sub in later on. If you do plan on a sub then 6's in the rear parcel shelf would be the way to go but if not go the 6x9's. Up front personally i would have the 6's in the door pods a relitively easy mod to do and it looks good. I have the door pods in one car and the 4's in the other they both have good sound but i find the 6's to be slightly better. Hope this gives you an idea on which way to go. Keep us posted on your progress and Good luck

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

you can buy aftermarket pods from any good audio shop for around 60 dollars each. 6's up front and 6x9 in the back is the best combination, 4 inches in the front distort too much. will be louder with the fader in the middle. got 4 inches in the front of my car and i have to turn the fader all the way to the back speaker even with 90watt 4inches.

Nodg.

If it distorts, its not a matter of size, its a matter of how much power it is using. Upgrade your deck if you are running it off there, or go buy a good 4 channel amp with high wattage. A bit above normal price, but well worth the money.

id agree but i turn it up loud. and it gets to the point where you get bass and they cant handle it. one things for sure you just gotta replace the ****ty paper based originals which are 15 watts by memory lol

Yes, I currently have alpine 6.5" Type R speakers in my door pods and the tweeters provided in the dash where original speakers are.

But honestly, if you are going a custom stereo system, an amp makes all the difference.

Also depends on the power/quality of the amp, and yes, the cables running through.
Cables just isnt cables any more
