Gday guys, havnt been on here for a while now.
My VN started missing again earlier tonight, i drove through a small puddle and everything was fine, about 30 seconds later i gave the car a fair boot and next thing you know it started missing, last time this happened i brought a second hand coil pack and all was well.
So i chucked the multimeter on the coil packs and 6-3 read 6.05 5-2 read 6.0 and 4-1 read 6.02 (atleast i think thats what they are numbered).
Anyway after this dad got home and decided "This is how we used to do it" we loosened every lead off of the coil packs and then with the motor running using insulated pliers and a glove pulled off the leads and then replaced them to see if it made a difference.
pulling No. 6 off it jumped spark back to number 3 and nearly stalled but then when i pulled No. 3 off (after 6 back on) there was no change in idle but the spark didnt jump back to No. 6 but instead onto the coil pack itself.
Alright, i know that was a long read but i figured before i ask my question i would give you all the information i know first.
Anyway the question is, are my coil packs fried again? any quick replys would be muchly appreciated, anyway thanks guys and have a great weekend.

If it's a series 2 motor it'll have 3 individual coils running 2 cylinders each. So check all leads and if 2 are making no difference to idle it's a good guess that it's that coil. I rekon it'd be a bit safer pulling the leads at the spark plug end, or safer again using a spark tester.

Yeah it's a series 1 but I've got the s2 coils, I'm going to see my mate with a vy tomorrow so I'm just gunna chuck one of his on and see if it makes a difference and then I'll know for sure. And Yeah it wasn't the safest thing to do but it worked lol and I only got a small zap in my wrist from it :) |

Alright, I feel like the biggest idiot now, after swapping SFO and coils with my mates by and it not making any difference I changed leads with a mate and had no success, the 2 sparkplugs I checked looked fine so I didn't want to pull the other 4 out and just sort of gave up.
Then I decided, maybe it's my injectors so I went to wobble the plugs to make sure they were on properly and one came off completely, ended up I just had an unplugged injector the whole time.
Thanks for the help I'm happy with how it's running now but I miss the lumpy idle already :) I might just have to go out and buy a cam |

Excellent news! Good find buddy. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |
