Does anyone else find this a bit sad? All vn's you see on the roads now are bashed, dented and have badlyfaded paint. Hardly any of them will still be on the road a few years from now. They're mostly absolute poverty cars, which sucks, since i drive one.
The ones that have been done up and are still in decent condition are mostly atrocious and have been molested to the point of no return. Wood grain steering wheels, calais interiors, bodykits from newer commodores, horrible custom paint jobs with matching "custom interiors" (a euphemism for awful interior mods which have devalued the car). There's hardly any clean original non-molested vn's left.

i guess it all depends on where you live mate in QLD there are heaps on stock VN's still at car yards for sale and heaps of stock ones on the road with perfect paint, interior and dent free in saying that mine is not really stock but i wouldn't say it has been molested. shore it has a supercharger and VQ statesman seats in it but the way i look at it is that the VQ's are a VN there just a statesman version and the supercharger can be unbolted at any time and lets face it 99% of people love a good set of mags on there pride and joy. I can see were your coming from tho as there are a lot of shocking ones out there and the people who own them shouldn't be aloud to keep them as its just a shame, I like to go buy a simple rule if it adds value to the car do it if it doesn't don't. the stock VN is a great looking car but with a few little changes it can look 10 times better but that's just me everyone is different a good way to look at it mate is that when they go to sell there crap looking VN you will be able to buy it for really cheap |

I used to work for a car yard that sold mostly XR Falcons and HSVs. He had an irritaing habit of swapping the stock wheels for tastless chrome "gangsta" 20 inch rims, and sticking Chevy badges on them. To me, a Bowtie badge belongs on a Chevy. On a Holden, it's a Bogan Stamp |

They're still out there. I picked mine up from a yard in August, bog stock 6/4sp auto with 126000 on the clock for $2k. Did some checks and an old fella had traded it on an ex rental and this yard picked it up form Hertz.
In saying that, now the paint on the roof is beginning to flake. |

MY VN had a similar history. A one owner from new, other than a few dents, minor rust and some mechanical issues, it was mostly in good condition. I've recently refurbished a tailgate for it, but the only mods I've done from stock were 15" VX Commodore steel rims (My brother put alloys on his VX) VS seats trimmed to look like stock VNs, A two way radio and a new stereo. Engine mods may come later, but I like it having "stealth comouflage;" the ability to sneak in and out of a country town unnoticed by some bored traffic constable. |

I agree Mechknight..there is nothing worse than seeing a Chevy badge on a Holden..it makes me rabid ! The engine may be a Chevy , but the body is a Holden....it would be as stupid as putting a Holden badge on a Chevy.
Way back in 1990 Mum bought a VN wagon in Alpine white..she had to wait for it though , as she did NOT want air con....it took 6 weeks for it to get delivered because they had to delete the option..so i like to think of it as a factory custom..lol.
Mum has gone , but i still have the car , 22 years later...the only mod is i put CSA powder coated star shaped rims on , to replace the plastic star trims that kept falling off. Inside the wagon is still in good nick and the back seat was never used. Outside the Alpine white paint is getting rather sad , and a couple of weeks ago , while i was legally parked in the street , some idiot in a 4 WD backed over my bonnet and squashed it in....it looks awful. I am now looking for a good secondhand one to put on.
There are still people out there that love our VNs. |

Welcome to the club CommaDora!! You will have to do up a bit of an intro and some pics for us!! Cheers |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

There are plenty of VN's that are in good nick up my way,Northern NSW-SE Qld,but also a lot of not so good ones..First of the modern Holdens, didn't rust like earlier models and reasonable fuel consumption esp. on the Highway. |

Although VNs had a reputation back in the day of getting stolen a lot (when the VP was released, the figures dropped rapidly. Holden offered VN owners the option of upgrading to the VP immobiliser system) they are still a workhorse out there. The numbers still on the road still far outweigh those of its nearest Ford rivals, the EA and EB Falcons. Some people get lucky with the EA, but you know something is wrong when Ford dealers stocked heads for them as a "service part;" just as you'd stock a water pump for a VN.
I've been through the usual array of "faults" you expect from a VN; replaced timing cover, power steering rack, and have had a tailgate reconditioned for it. Yet no matter what kind of work I ask it to do, it does so with a minimum of complaints |
