G'day fella's
First post woo! I've got a 89 Vn auto With 282xxx km and the series I motor.
Question is, at time's the trans seems to surge from 4th and overdrive, at times you can back off stop the problem, but at times it continues to surge. Could it be in need for a service, or is the trans on it's way out?
Thank you.

Yeah time for a Tranny upgrade by the sound of things but check the adjustment/condition on the kick-down cable first.

I'd take it in for a checkup at an auto trans specialist, but before you do, have a look at the colour of the auto transmission fluid, and how much there is. A shortage of oil will make it slip between gears, and sometimes makes it surge. If the oil is closer to black than cherry red, then you have a serious problem. No harm in getting a professional opinion, then ask him for a quote. Once you have his quote, then get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion as to how much.
