Hi guys,

I want to get my exhaust system upgraded because I've been
getting rattles and getting poor fuel consumption.

I've been quoted 2.5" cut sports exhaust ( from cat to rear) $295 and $545 from Y pipes to rear of car.
Standard exhaust $320 because it has 2 mufflers front and rear
but the sports only has 1 muffler at the front and then the straight pipe, also i can get front muffler to diff for $180, being as i don't know much about cars are these prices reasonable and which is more economical? standard or sports and why is standard more pricey

for economy theres a lot of things u could be doing b4 u hack out hundreds for an exhaust!
get a K&N Pod filter in a custom air box with a cold air intake! that will lower fuel comsumption marginely and improve power!
i took the rear exhaust off mi car and its noticeably louder, i might take my second one off aswell later on!
try that first then look into sports exhausts!

i muffler on the v6 isnt lous at all, yout not going to break the sound barrier, the price for the sports exhaust is average assusming a glass packed muffler is used? if not then its too expensive

Cheers,
Nodg.

i don't care if it's louder, i just hate all the rattle and there are holes in the front muffler, the pod filter sounds good, can that attach to where the air box is now or futher up the black air pipe? also my oxygen sensor is gone so that hasn't help my fuel either so i'm getting things done 1 at a time

pod goes where the standard air box is now, take off the air box and plop on the old poddie!
if ur gonna get a pod then without doubt u need a shield or custom air box to shiled the hot air that will blow onto the pod!

I'm doubtful just how beneficial going a bigger pipe from the cat back actually is... at the end of the day gas can only move as fast as the slowest point (the exhaust manifold and thin pipe before the cat).

It'll make more noise but that'd be it wouldn't it?

If you're gonna actually go with the full exhaust, I would recommend getting some extractors to go with it, Pacemaker are the best for a VN as far as I know.....a little annoying to install however cause steering is in the way.
But extractors are definitely worth the money put into them.

car manufacturers put exhausts, airfilters, etc on cars to be as quiet as possible, 9 times out of 10 this noise reduction causes breathing restrictions, a basic pod and catback will allow your motor to breathe alot easier especially in the higher rev's. ive test driven too many cars to recall during the before and after exhaust and basic mods have been installed and can confidently say that a better air filter and exhaust is good for 10-15 kilowatts on the v6 and 10-20 on the v8 commodores. extracters arent neseserilly bigger than standard and are designed better for outflowing gasses to pass to the tailpipe, is not as noticeable as a catback but does increase performance moreso throughout the higher rev range.

Cheers,
Nodg.

That doesn't sound right to my experiences, Nodg.

If you're going to do it, do it right and get extractors aswell if you can afford it- if a Catback is all you can afford, atleast it will still be an improvement over stock.

@vnmaniac, a second hand exhaust will come with muffler wear and wouldnt flow as good as a new system. depends on price if its for 50 bucks then id get it otherwise your better off to go new.
@mild50, can you stop questioning everything i say? ive done more to cars than you can poke a stick at.

Sorry Nodg- didn't mean to come across as shadowing you ;)

As I said earlier- if a catback is all you can afford, go for it as it will be an improvement over stock. If you can fund it- go the whole hog including extractors and know that your exhaust system is well sorted.

Or if funds are short go with the cat back system first and get the rest when you can afford it.

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

I feel like grinding it off, anyway i spoke to my muffler man and he is going to put on the sports exhaust $295 doesn't include the cattalytic converter but i can get that later, why would it sound like if there was no exhaust at all i mean cut off at the Y pipes?

the cataylic converters used standard are the same for v6 and v8, they flow quite well and is a waste of money to get a high flow one. you dont notice a performance increase like a sports exhaust or extracters.

Nodg.
