| first, check to see if the key is bent at all, is it hard to slide in the barrel?. seeing if its bent will be hard to tell so study it for a bit. second attempt is to spray wd40 into the barrel a few times to flush it out, although this can completely stuff the lock mechanism if its really gunked up. maybe try a spare key if you have one then if that fails get a new barrel, although you will need the procedure to replace the barrel as it has an anti theft mechanism |

ahh okay, well the spare key is the exact same, instead of spraying it with WD40 and running the risk of ****ing it completely, could I used compressed air?
It only just started doing this yesterday...
Oh, and anti theft? so its not a simple remove and replace job? I assume you guys have the tutorial on this website? |

| its not a tutorial on the site as i think it may be educating on how to steal avn lol but if its ok ill let you know, the anti theft mechanisms consist of removing the steering lock without breaking which is a bit tricky and undoing the bolt which holds the barrel in, because if you try and undo it the bolt head will snap off! compressed air will most likely destroy it the same as wd40, if you have seen the inside of a lock before you will find out how the smallest bit of dirt getting in the wrong places can seize them from operating |

Sorry nodg all i did was undo the bolt and out the barrel came(once the column surround was off of course). I would be trying some graphite powder in the barrel first and see if this fixes it. If not invest in a new lock set. They aren't overly expensive new or go to the wreckers and grab the full set(boot, glove box, doors, and ignition) out of a wreck. Just make sure the key isn't overly worn or this little exercise would be pointless. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

| well yours would of been replaced at some stage already, the main bolt which holds the barrel in is made from a soft compound which can be done up, but if someone wants to take it off the head gets snapped off, so theres no need to say sorry. ive done too many at the wreckers which require a pin punch and hammer to undo the bolt. disturbing the grit inside the barrel with anything will most likely seize it, if you leave it the way it is it could last another few years or it could last one more turn its hard to say and very unpredictable |

Go the graphite powder first. We use it on a lot of locks and it often works wonders.
Failing that you are up for a new barrel. While you're at it you can get someone to install one of those shrouds that make it a lot harder for some prick to start your car without the key. |
